Hello,

My first post here, and I've combed the threads for info., but I'll just ask you my specific question. I've got a 2006 Forester automatic. Non turbo. Got my eyes on 2nd hand Tab trailer that weighs in at 1900 lbs, with a 140 lb tongue weight and surge breaks. Have any of you guys towed that much? Am I looking at excessive drive train wear?

Thanks very much,

Ron

BJCarter2:

Are you sure about the 2,000 lb tow limit for the 2006 model? My 2005 XS with 4EAT has a 2,400 lb tow limit and I tow my 2,040 lb trailer, that has surge brakes, with no problems (so far...)
I checked again, and you're right: my manual says 2400 lbs for the automatic. I'd read somewhere 2000 for auto, 2400 for manual. But I did talk to my mechanics and they were dubious about towing so much weight with a Forester. I'll have to think about it. Thanks to those of you who have written, and if anyone else wants to chime in, I'm eager to get your thoughts.
