Hey everyone...

My girlfriend has a 99 Forester and the stock key fob has fallen apart.

Besides the dealer, where can I get a replacement and instructions for reprogramming it?

Thanks!

Take a look at this page at cars101. It says that the 99 Forester uses the Code Alarm system.

The Amazon link above will take you to the Alpine remote used from 2000 to 2004 (and interoperable with the non-immobilizer, teardrop shaped remote used through 2008), not to the Code Alarm remote. But if indeed cars101 is wrong and the Alpine does look like the one you want, $59 is way, way too much to pay.

Try eBay. A quick look shows lots of Alpines and a few Code Alarms, at pretty reasonable prices.

As for programming, the instructions are on that same page at cars101.

As others have mentioned, Ebay is a good bet. Today I received the remote entry fobs for a 2006 Forester that I bought in an auction. They both worked as soon as I programmed the car My winning bid was a ridiculous $2.46. And shipping was $4.90. I've seen '99 fobs for sale there as well.
