Figured I would put this out here; Subaru Ambassador from Michigan, somewhat in the market for a 2004-2005 Forester 2.5 XT.
My Subaru History
My first Subie was a 1999 Impreza 2.5 RS, (regrettably) sold it in 2008 with 175K + miles on it for a 3 series. Fast forward to 2015, my wife was looking for over a year for a hatchback STI that wasn't as much as a new one with 15-25k miles on it. I ended up finding a Launch Edition with 3000 miles on it for sale at the same price point, she was happy enough that it came with gold BBS' that we forgot about the hatch and went for it. Then in 2016 our first daughter was born and the BMW wasn't big enough anymore, so I found a 2015 Outback 3.6 Limited and traded up to that. Now that we are a full Subaru household I am looking for a fun, affordable and practical third vehicle and I really love the second gen Foresters.
So here I am, have been lurking for some time now, but thought I should step up and introduce myself.
Welcome.
Second gen. Foresters (aka Forester SG) are pretty fun, even in stock configuration. I’ve got a 2004 XT, pre facelift, with the EJ205 engine and although it’s our first car and subie, we love it despite some issues and it’s really nice to be able to keep up to almost any car on the road and off the road.
But I guess whatever I just said you’ve already experienced and you would want to make an off-road oriented Forester??
@theophilus48israel Before owning the 2.5 RS my daily driver was a TJ7 Wrangler and when I bought the Impreza the Jeep became my fun car. It was already pretty beefy but I dumped even more money into it and used that for trail riding and sand dune riding until I got tired of pouring money and time into it. When I sold my Impreza the Jeep was sold too. I haven't gotten back into off roading since.
In February 2012 I got a new Morgan 3 Wheeler and I was pretty focused on dumping my time and money into that. But after 5 years and $70k I was also over owning a bespoke British trike. Sold it last spring and now I'm somewhat looking for a fun car again.
My criteria this time is fun to drive, can toss dogs in the back without worry, dont need to remove car seats to put large items in back.
