Hi! <waves>

Actually the 2002 Forester in question is red (just like the one in the picture in the upper right of the screen). And it's not my car, it's my GF's car that I maintain. So far, the only thing I really like about the car is the external spin on transmission filter and transmission pan bolt. in so far as the rest of the car, I don't think it's as good as my Escort, and certainly not as reliable (unless those are caused by woman driver issues).

So far I have:
Replaced air filter
Replaced fuel filter
Replaced front left axle
Replaced transmission fluid and filter. I need to do this a few more times to get out all the burnt transmission fluid. Interesting since it does have an idiot light for AFT fluid temperatire. Transmission works just fine, but fluid smelles horribly bad.
Changed oil a few times.
Replaced battery
Replaced both O2 sensors.

It seems to need the following:
Front right axle
OEM CD changer doesn't work (CD stuck, or something, radio part still works)
Donnelley rear view mirror has some sort of problem
Console clock doesn't work
Windshield (cracked)
Rear wiper pump works, but fluid doesn't make it to the back window (I suspect that this is a result of a wreck and wasn't fixed properly).

Would be nice if it had a voltmeter gauge built in.

I have a lot of reading here to do. The car has just over 100,000 miles on it, and it's entering one of those phases like all cars do where you replace a bunch of stuff then it gets reliable again for a long time.

Car has an automatic transmission, but I thought that they all do, at least in 2002.

Welcome to the forum from Niagara Falls... it's odd that you consider the Escort more reliable, I think there may be driver issues making it that way though

you said it first not me...
I've been meaning to ask her if she's ever seen the ATF Fluid temp dash light light up. Fluid got that way somehow... Never knew that that indicator light was there until several months after I changed the ATF fluid (normal drain and fill).

Welcome! We're glad to have you here.

I used to live in Columbia, and I get down to Baltimore quite often, as one of my daughter lives there and we own some rental property in Highlandtown.

You're not too far from one of this forum's supporting vendors, Annapolis Subaru. Jackie in the parts department takes good care of our members and offers nice discounts on both manufacturer and aftermarket products.

Looks like I can make good use of the clock fix:
oh-no-my-clock-doesnt-work-3350

It won't let me do a direct link, but it's here.

Espically since I can solder at the expert level.

Anyone have a fix for the CD changer not working?

Even closer!

Supporting vendors pay a fee to the owner of the forum in exchange for the exposure they get here to over 26,000 members worldwide. Some specialize in parts and accessories custom made for Subarus, some are more general, two are actual Subaru dealers, and a few others came here as part of some sort of group buy and don't really have much to offer that's special to our Foresters. Some are quite active here, engaging in technical discussions and offering advice and information regarding their products, while others just seem to exist. You can see the whole list in the Supporting Vendors Forum.

Annapolis Subaru is one of the dealers, and our contact in their parts department is Jackie, known here as SubaruPartsGirl. She knows the parts catalog by heart, also deals in a number of aftermarket parts and accessories, and offers us all a very good deal. You can reach her by Private Message here or by phone at 443 837-1442. If you phone, just be sure to mention us.

They're located on Old Solomons Island Road, just north of Aris T. Allen Blvd, which runs off of 50 just after you get onto eastbound 50 from 97. Off on the right as you go up the hill.

As for your link not working, there's a brief restriction on posting of links by brand new members, a reaction to one-shot link spam attacks that we've been receiving recently. It will pass as you become more active.

Just tried this one out, and now the clock is working! Thanks everybody!

Now if I can only get the CD player (6 disc changer) working. The radio part works just fine, it's just that the CD player and/or changer is completely bad (does nothing when you try to make it do anything).

If it's beyond repair, watch the classifieds here. Sometimes people replace the stock player with an aftermarket head unit and try to sell the stock one.

Welcome to the forum from Oregon!

Good luck on your repairs. Post up a picture so the members can look over the Forester.

Welcome!

Baltimore was our "port of entry" when we immigrated to the US, we lived in Baltimore and Catonsville from 1984 to, IIRC, 1989 or thereabouts, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia.

I returned to Baltimore for school, in 1993, where I met my wife. We're now in Cleveland, Ohio, but Baltimore still remains one of our favorite cities.

I was wondering if there is already a thread about common problems to these cars?

So far I can tell, the clocks, axles, and back windshield wiper fluid motors seem to be common failure points, but I would have thought that there would already be a thread on this subject that I was not finding. In other fourms it's often a sticky.
