Check your owners manual, or if you don't have it sign up for mysubaru.com and look at an online one.

In any event, AFAIK, Dexron III should NOT be used for a 4-EAT of that vintage. The new Type-HP applies. Good luck finding it anywhere but a dealership.

BTW - if your dealership doesn't know, find another dealership.

According to the manual you need Subaru type-HP or Idemitsu HP.
Dextron III can be used temporarily only and can cause noise and vibration.
I don't use original ATF in my old Forester but I would stop by the dealership to get original ATF for 09.
How many miles do you have on that Legacy ? Isn't it too soon to change ATF in 1 1/2 y.o. car ?
