I have been looking at buying either a VF39 or VF43 for my Forester. I came across one for sale and have a pic of it that I wanted to get people's opinion on. It is a pic of the hotside, very small WG crack, but I'm more concerned about the turbine wheel. Does it looked chipped, would this affect performance at all?

In looking at some other VF43's, I didn't notice this "chipped" look. Thanks for any help.

I assume you mean the middle of the compressor wheel where they chip off a bit of it to balance it out. That is normal.

I figured it had something to do with balancing it out, but wasn't entirely sure. Thanks for the quick response, I might just have to pick this turbo up.

Those "chips" are definitely for balancing and for future reference that is the turbine wheel.:icon_wink:
