We were experiencing what I thought was high oil consumption on an Infiniti a few years ago and we were asked to bring the car back to the dealer a number of times over a set interval to confirm the consumption. I imagine the manufacturer insists on confirming the consumption because the remedy is most likely a new engine which is not a small expenditure.
