ndondo's 04 Fozzie XS Journal

I thought I start one - it's nice to have a journal

December 19 2008 - North Vancouver

Nov 30 2008

Nov 2008 - First grocery trip

Here is the day I pick the car up - Friday Nov 7 2008 - She got 190,000 KMS - It's up there, I know. but maintenance record is really well kept. That what makes my decision getting this car.
She is a little dirty

the day I pick the car up - Friday Nov 7 2008

NOTE:
After driving the fozzie for 150 km around the city
I have a few notes for it

150 kms of driving, then the fozzie took a 19 liters drink - not what I expected, but reasonable with the short city driving around here.
I expected to be better as I get used to the 5 speed

The rpm is higher, - I found my self neve cruise under 2000 rpm
at 80 km/h, the rpm is at 2250 - 2300 rpm (5th gear)

The rear bearing is making a whining noise, pretty annoying and I am hoping to get it replaced this weekend.

Hasty head lights - Found out about aluminum polish in this thread - will try this to clear it up
http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f138/no-more-headlight-haze-41889/

Found a good mechanic to work on my fozzie

Over all, I am happy

The car definitely looks good - I love the ride height , the stock stereo is good. Good sound, I wish it can play MP3, but that's not a big deal right now

fozzie has a great support forum - (this site is awesome)
a lot of awesome fozzie picture from all over the world (aussie, europe , ect )
a lot of awesome off road fozzie too
a lot of track setup fozzie as well. - haha fozzie does both ways (lowered or raised - it's like a bisexual LOL)

:woohoo:

Glad you're enjoying your Fozzie!
She looks damn nice, and there's nothing wrong with bisexuals... Unlike with lesbians; us guys actually have a chance of participating!

You could always get the AUX. jack from the MY07+ models installed by your new found mechanic

what I had in mind right now

1. Replace rear bearing
2. Replace Power window motor - Rear left side power window does not work
3. Change oil / filter / spark plug / air filter
4. Check cabin air filter
5. Reduce Wind Noise read this thread http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f77/solved-window-wind-noise-16049/index7.html
if anyone have a suggestion what I should do for regular maintenance on this car please post them :)

6. Change Manual Transmission OIL and REAR diff oil

Thank you

Wenatchee eh? I see if I can visit some time.
I rarely cross the border lately, but would love to take this fozzie for a long drive soon

I have new mileage number

2004 Forester XS
Average driving 50 km/h
40 km / day (going to and from work)

9.71 liter per 100 km = 24.223953 miles per gallon

Happy number for me.. awesome for a 4x4 with so much torque
my driving style on this one is high gear most of the time (eg: 60km/h on 5th gear)

on this tank I am going to try to drive on the torque range, and see if I get better , same or worse mileage.

I will get my rear bearing done tomorrow. hoping for a smooth disassembling process *fingers crossed hehheh

I also did my first oil change - the under carriage of this car is cleaaan.. I am glad :)

I got my fozzie back yesterday
the clunk in the front is NOW fixed (link rods, and worn front stabilizer)
the humming on the rear is due to rear left bearing - fixed - seals, bearing replaced

the result the humming is significantly reduced at 80 km/h
but there are some mild hum from the rear. I am going to think to myself that is the truck like gene in a fozzie, so I'll be ok :) - the hum is acceptable at 80 - 100 km/h , almost blend with the road noise caused by the tires

Time to upgrade some front suspension parts!
And why not replace the rear bearing? Theres a tec page in the DIY section.

the mechanic says left rear side only needed.. so I replaced that one
and he said that usually the other one, will go at some different time.

I thought to do both at the same time, but ended up one side only and he said the right side is ok

Okay it has only been 10 days and as I further analyze the second hum . I thinking it would be nice to get rid of it as well

haha first I thought I could live with it. but it turns out I get pretty irritated with the hum ... I think it either be the front bearing, or the center bearing this time

I re compiled a new to do list
Not so important at this time
1. Replace Power window motor - Rear left side power window does not work
2. Get Black Oil Filter, Spark Plug, Wires, and Green Air Filter
3. Check cabin air filter

4. Replace Headlight Bulb

Just installed Philips Extreme Power from powerbulbs.com
the result is satisfying. I said satisfying and not extraordinary :)

Don't expect go get extraordinary lumens from an HID but it is satisfying that you can see the road better and it's completely legal.

Will drive it again tonight in the raincouver weather and see if I have more comments about this bulb
