I've posted this query on a couple of Forums so sorry if you have read it before elsewhere.

I have been advised by a Subaru Service Centre that my rattle when letting out the clutch in 1st is the composite flywheel.
Seeing as how the Service Centre can't do Warranty work I have booked it into a Dealer recommended to me by them for 0700 hrs Monday 03/20/06 for assessment and replacement if it is indeed found to be the problem.

Does anybody here have info re this failure, the Service Centre tells me that Subaru are aware of the problem but only do something when they receive a complaint.
Is there a USA TSB on this problem or anything similar to it?
I need info before the assessment next Monday (Oz time fellas ) if it is available thanks.

Well, Casper kept his appointment at the City Subaru "Clinic" in Brisbane today.

He came home with NEW:

1 x SU12345AA002 Dual-Mass Flywheel
1 x SU30100AA671 No KUU Noise D/Mass C/PLA
1 x SU44059AA010 Bolt Centre Exhaust Pipe (must have been missing?)
1 x SU28024AC020 Boot Band (leaking inner CV Clamp)
1 x SU806786040 Oil Seal (slight leak on the old one)

All parts were replaced under Warranty.
I am only guessing that #2 is a Dual Mass Coupling Plate.

The end result is a much lighter clutch (to depress to the floor) and much quicker on the uptake when released. The original clutch felt like you needed the left leg of a muscle bound guy to depress it.

    very happy with the service and results ............ so far.

Well done Casper! Sounds like you've also resolved the heavy clutch symptom that others are talking about in another thread.

Kevin, the clutch now feels like it needs about a ¼ to ½ the strength I used to use on the old clutch, it is very light indeed, noticed it the first time I put it into gear to leave the Dealership.

Time/kilometres will tell if it stands up longer than the old one.

I was put in touch with a West Australian Subaru Dealer by a person from another Suby forum re this Clutch Rattle problem as his brother had his clutch plate also replaced but under a Recall.

I rang the Dealer and spoke with the Service Dept and it was confirmed that there is no actual Recall as such as there is no safety issues with the MY03's, but the guy did state that if anybody complains about the "rattle" or a "squeaking belt" and the belts are fine then they replace the Flywheel and Clutch Plate providing the vehicle is still under Warranty.

I questioned him on the part numbers I listed in an above post and he said they were indeed the replacement parts.

So for all those (mainly MY03's with Dual Mass Clutches) who have either a "rattle" or a "squeaking belt" noise and your Forester is under Warranty then get it checked out ASAP.
