While doing part of a super silly rally race through Mongolia with my brother I decided to buy a Forester XT! (That rally race is the Mongol Rally, check it out, I'm gonna do the whole thing 2021, some of you should meet me out there!)

I bought my Fozzy bone stock in December '18 and immediately started consuming everything I could about these cars. The previous owner owned a private Subaru shop and this was his sisters car, and it was meticulously maintained. I got it at roughly 89,000 miles, he had replaced the front and rear O2 sensors as well as the passenger side valve cover gasket.

The plan is to stay on the stock long block throughout the life of the car so I'm going to stick to VF series turbo's, probably stay with stock injectors, plus some body mods, lower it, stiffer RSB, subframe locking bolts, STi turbo back exhaust, etc, JDM side spats, etc.

Shout out to Winnerone23, Tweak3D, Blingstrom, Misquitocoil, the Unibombers manifesto, and others for all the inspiration and information for this build!

Couple notes: Already did my gussets over the winter, and the v belt tensioner and fuel filter this summer! Doing timing this weekend. Doing belt, idlers, water pump, water pump gasket, thermostat, and thermostat gasket. Woot! Ready to go!

Timing went perfect. I also installed a Cobb lightweight crank pully in a spur of the moment decision when the guy who helped me with my timing offered so sell it to me at cost, and he would buy another for his upcoming install on his car (he's doing Cobb 20g, turbo intake, TGV's, id1050's, fuel lines, etc). I also bought a recently rebuilt, port and polished VF43 (I thought it was a VF48 when I agreed to buy it, when he pulled it off his car he was like crap its a 43 and I was like whatever) Hopefully going to get a '14 STi TMIC later in the month.

Also hit a new milestone today!

Also was given a Tomei turbo intake with a small amount of damage on the front side, no big deal. It's a great addition to my car, and I'll install it when I put everything on. Here's a photo of the car this summer at a pyro shoot:

Here is a list of links that were useful to me as I learned about my car:

super thread on everything:

blown trannies due to big turbos:

18g/16g threads

4eat threads with MPT to VTD:

VTD Transmission notes:
heres a thread on it - https://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f89/subarus-have-vtd-mpt-sportshift-418562/
Winnerone did:
05-06 Baja sport shifter..
05-06 Baja turbo 4eat TCU..
09 LGT paddle shifter's...
IPT valvebody and tranny cooler.... before a turbo, intercooler, injectors, and anything more than 250whp....

(here is a step by step: https://www.toronto-subaru-club.com/forums/showthread.php/184256-MPT-to-VTD-4EAT-center-quot-diff-quot-conversion?)
(For the ITP valvebody: don't bother on a 04' + FXT with a 'direct control' transmission, all there is to do is put a $2 resistor in there to raise the line pressure, put a (6 Ohm 10 W IIRC) resistor between (B55) No.3 and (B55) No.4 will improve the shift firmness..if it dosent try a 5 or 4 Ohm, don't bother with a VB mod on this vehical..sorry IPT)

Also, here is a link to my google sheet where I'm keeping all my notes and cost for parts!

I'm currently working on getting the sport shifter and Baja TCU, which are mentioned in Winnerone23 and Tweak3D's auto build threads!

I like the unsuspecting silver! The DOHC timing belt seems more difficult than the SOHC. I've done multiple DOHC cars but never a DOHC Subaru. 4 cams just seems stressful haha

You've got a pretty great information list there, nice to have it all in one place! Now you just have to spend hours and hours going through build threads and then (if you're like me at least) forgetting which mod goes with which thread and resorting to extensive note taking.

That MPT to VTD conversion thread is awesome, I actually hadn't seen that before but am definitely saving it! One suggestion, if you come across a page that is super useful, especially one with pictures, save it to web.archive.org. I've come across countless threads with missing pictures or bad links in them, the archive has been super helpful a few times.

I've just done a lot of what it sounds like you're planning to do (08+ STI TMIC, VF43/48, etc), so let me know if you have any questions or just want to compare notes! So awesome to see that others are still modding these cars 15 years later, and it's not just me who's late to the party :)
