Bought it for 350 bucks. I was told it needed head gaskets. Got it towed home. I first wanted to double check the engine. so check oil and antifreeze for either. both looked clean. a very kind redditor suggested I put seafoam in the oil. so I did just that. the motor was missing and shaking bad. once I started it up with the seafoam you could just watch it smooth out and idle perfect. so changed the oil. bought new spark plugs and a cylinder pressure gauge test. 160 psi in all 4 cylinders. new spark plugs in went for a test drive.
In that test drive I found out the alternator was bad. Found a Subaru guy that was parting out a legacy and put an 05 legacy alternator on the forester. 70 amp oe to 120 amp alternator. new alternator and battery. it runs good and drives well for a subaru with 200k miles.

Need to see where the hole in the exhaust is. quiet idle but little noisy under throttle. then I need to put in a new radio. maybe replace all 4 speakers to.
