Well As the title says, i'm planning on modding my grill into a mesh grill:) I was also planning on some strong aux lights to put behind the mesh.

I was wondering what lights people would recommend? I just want to use them as Fogs I guess, some nice bright ones. Sounds like a very n00bish question.
I guess my question is, if you were to buy some Aux/Fog lighting, what ones would you get?

No idea but I'd love to know how you plan to do the mesh thing. No actually I'd like to wait til you've done it, see the finished job then read the 'how to' you post that has lots of nice clear instructions and pics

Are you sure you want additional fogs as the ones in the bumper are fog-lights.
(unless you have the Prodrive Driving lights fitted :icon_biggrin:)

Here's Coopster's setup..................

Yer i've seen alot of the grill mods, like this one, this is the same thing I want really.
http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f85/03-05-hella-install-62069/

Thanks for the links!

Please forgive me , but iv seen "prodrive" here and there on here, what is it exactly?

And if i do end up doing it il try and remember to take some pictures. When i get bogged down in a project i tend to get on with it and i dont stop and take pictures, i just keep going:biggrin: Iv already got a "carputer" modded into the dash now, including a reverse camera. However I have no picture of installation which is a shame as I would love to do a journal. Could take it out and do it again I guess :)

Something I was thinking about doing was having these extra lights on a remote. I did this with my old car with an air horn...great for when people sit on your car:yell: Got a cheap RF receiver from ebay and wired afew things into it.

I would do this with the stock lights but they seem to have a switching circuit, which would short out my own circuit to the receivers relay upon switching between hi-lo beams, so I can't do that simply like my old car. That said i'm not sure if the stock fogs have the same type of circuit here so i could try and have those on remote:) pointless but fun. I like pointless but fun mods.

As far as Subaru's are concerned........................

Prodrive used to run the Subaru Rally Team along with STi.

They also supply various performance upgrades for Subaru vehicles including the PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack)

They can supply replacement driving light kit for the SG MY03-05 to replace the existing fog lamps

This lot are useful to look at,
http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f104/let-me-see-your-grills-59648/

If possible get a 2nd hand one off ebay so you have one to chop whilst keeping your original.

I found some powder coated mesh as some people have had issues with painted mesh chipping.
Look forward to seeing your finished project.
Good plan... Perhaps a pre modded one will turn up on ebay? would prefer to do it myself. Where did you find this powder coated mesh? I noticed some mesh in halfords the other day...not sure what type it is though but hey, it's halfords... probably wont be great!

Found the mesh on ebay, most don't say they are powdercoated until you go into the actual listing. There are some nice looking abs plastic honeycomb type mesh on ebay which could look really good.
Never seen a modded one for sale on ebay.
This is what i based mine on

Anyway this is how mine ended up, pic doesn't really do it justice, ended up spraying the bit inside of the chrome the same colour as the car.

Very nice! that's exactly what I want to do to mine. I was in halfords today with my brother while he was getting something. I saw the mesh they had and bought some that looks exactly like yours. I'l do it tomorrow if I get time.

OK I've read threads and looked at the pictures. What I still don't get is you have to cut off the horizontal slats of the grill(e) - OK. But do you have to cut what's left of the surround in the vertical plane if you like so that you loose the bit of the surround where the vertical slats meet the surround?

Does that make any sense?

In other words is the grille surround 'slimmer' when you've finished or am I missing a trick?

Sorry to be dim :shake:

OK but there are people who reckon they've done it without having to repaint so there must be a way without hacking it to death.

Might look into doing this now, haven't got much to do. What's with the Grill and Grille spellings anyway? American spelling? I noticed this when i was looking up the grill(e) mods on here.

Have looked at my old front grill(e) and apart from the badge surround its a one piece moulding.

You would have to be VERY careful when cutting out the slats to not require repainting or some fibreglass work.

Don't forget that the Forester Sti has a different front bumper skin to match the curved bottom edge of the grill.
