I am looking at this 04 FXT with 110k miles. Clean carfax all the vin tags in place. When I test drove the car I noticed whenever I turn the steering wheel it makes some noise. Body has few dents about 4-5 half of inch dents. Interior is in pretty shape. Silver with black interior limited model. What should I pay for this FXT?

Does it come with the service history? The timing belt was due at 105K miles, was it done?

I would check with a local Subaru dealer and ask them to run a service history on the VIN number while they give the car a mechanical inspection. The noise could be a worn PS belt, PS fluid leak, drive train or suspension issue. It's worth checking out before negotiating price. I would be concerned about other maintenance issues such as the timing belt as well.

Thank you for the responds. They don't have any record for the car. So first I will do if I end up purchase the car I will have the timing belt replace. Does 04s still have headgasket issue? I will try to have the car check out by the local subaru dealership. Forgot to add it will need a new windshield. It everything checks out at the dealership how much should I offer them first? On the test drive I also noticed the wind noise is a lot louder than my 00 outback, is it normal on Forester?

The required repairs are adding up! If you're going to buy it, I'd subtract the cost of the services you need to have done from the asking price. As to the going price. I'd look on autotrader or craigslist for the same year & miles to see what they're going for.

As to headgasket issues on an '04. Much less than the previous years.
