Looking for tire replacement experiences. I love a lot of things about my 2015 Forester 2.5 Touring, but I am disappointed by the jittery ride, especially with passengers. I just crossed the 5000 mile mark. I can feel every uneven wrinkle in the pavement. The dealer told me that this is to be expected and they won't help me make it better.

Today, I was on smooth pavement by my work, and after taking off from a light, and slowly rolling over some ridges in the road and getting my kidneys shaken, I thought I would explore what new tires could do.

I have the stock 18" Bridgestone Duelers 225/55/R18. The tread doesn't look that offroad-aggressive to my eye, but I'm not an expert. I've seen the references on this site and reviews on Tirerack that reflect poorly on this tire.

Should I expect tires to help with this, or is it purely of a suspension issue?

What I'm looking for are first-hand accounts of replacing the stock tire with a road tire to eliminate the jitteryness on the road. Does it make sense to use a passenger-vehicle tire like the Michelin Sport 230/50R18m, in order to achieve this? My climate is the Northwest, so it's generally rainy and rarely snowy. I'd keep the stock tires for snow if the better riding tires are no good in the snow.

I'd love to make the car more easier riding for long trips, too.

So #1 is improved dry/wet ride quality and reducing jitteryness and #2 is quietness. I can live with reduced capability on the trail, as this is more of a comuter, safe kid-hauler. At least for the next few years.

EDIT: TIRE PRESSURE IS SPEC: ABOUT 31 PSI.

I'm using the same tire & also find the ride jittery on rough pavement, although better with load.
Shorter sidewall will probably make things worse in that respect.
Michelin Primacy MXV4[H] (CR recommendation) or Michelin PREMIER A/S (tire rack recommendation), both in stock size will probably work for you.

I'd go with a touring style tire, for a smoother ride, based on your needs. Of course Michelins are known for their quality and long life, but there are other brands that will make a difference too. I changed to B.F. Goodrich from stock Goodyear, on my old 2003 Jeep, and it was like night and day in respect to the ride quality.

Yes, touring rather than sport tires, and don't go for a larger rim, shorter sidewall.

As far as brands, I hear a lot about Continental tires having a softer sidewall than many. Check out Tire rack, as they try to evaluate ride quality when they test.....

Specifically on a CUV? Ok, this is good to know. Are the Duelers that I have now "Sport"? Do other CUV's come with softer tires, comparatively?

Is there a resource that has a comparison of tire choices, specifically for CUV's? I don't want to get something that won't work on my Forester, even if it fits the wheel.

Tires made for SUV/CUV have (presumably) stronger sidewalls resulting in stiffer ride than passenger tires.
Same goes for sport oriented & lower profile tires, with all else being equal they will (again presumably) give you a stiffer ride in exchange for better cornering & crosswind stability.
If you are looking for the comfort, you are better off shopping in the touring/grand-touring category, many SUV/CUV owners run on these types of tires.
The only real limitation for these, in my estimation, is all terrain/off-road use where the tire may be subjected to high side loads from rock or really rough terrain.
Your tire profile 55, is probably already too low for that activity anyway, people engaged in that kind of activity usually go with 65-75 profile or higher.
I hope someone with the better knowledge of tires will opine to give you more guidance, these are my conclusions that are based on some reading & my limited understanding of the subject.

I switched to pirelli p7+ tires and they were worse, now running conti truecontacts and they are awesome. A very mellow planted ride with a very soft feel over bad pavement which abounds out here.

I'm on 17" oem wheels

Were you getting a jittery ride over small imperfections in the road with the OEM tires, and did the conti truecontacts resolve that?

I'm trying to work with the dealer on this issue that's driving me nuts. They did a ride along with me 2 months ago, and while the tech was shaking in his seat from the ride quality, he told me that "ttthhiis is-is normemal," and basically I am on my own with my new car. =(

so far I'm pleasantly surprised by the new Conti DWS 06, which rides more like a touring tire than a high performance tire. soaks up bumps and rides pretty smooth. My primary concern was for comfort on my commutes and good traction in the rain since I also live in the PNW. It's just a bonus that they're rated well in the snow. I went with 235/55/18's.

One thing I'd recommend is getting away from your stock tires all together, they're horrible in the snow and not worth keeping.. sell them and recoup some of the $$ to offset your new tires.

Not perfectly; I definitely don't confuse my ride with a camry (or even the SH, which was much better); but it helps enormously. I'd say 75% of the problem solved.
