Hi all,

I just bought a manual '98 Forester (my first Subaru) and it has an odd problem. As I'm driving, the doors will often lock-unlock-lock on their own. The open-door indicator comes on the dash at the same time, as does the interior light, so I assumed it was a sticky door switch. But then I found that I can consistently toggle the locks by hitting the button on the end of the right stalk (the windshield washer, IIRC). The doors lock themselves so often that I leave the door open whenever I get out to open gates so it doesn't leave me stranded with the keys inside. The car has no remote, just the power locks on the inside driver and passenger doors.

Otherwise the car is fun to drive--I enjoy a low slung manual on my windy mountain roads!

Thanks in advance,

Mark T.

First off welcome on board Mark T.:D
Is this something you want to try and track down yourself? If so I have a complete set of 98 manuals and can fax those pages to you. PM me your info if you want them faxed.
I'd start by checking all the factory grounding points fist.
