Ditch the CAI. They specifically designed the map for stock. That stock intake is fine for stage 1 and 2. There are plenty of other places to find power before having to resort to the intake, sell it and get to stage 2. Upgrade the intercooler. Worry about the intake once you start planning on upgrading the turbo, it's a waste and will only cause prblems on your current setup.

Prot tune = $400 roughly. Then he's gonna stage 2 and need another....

Sell the APS, buy a downpipe and go stage 2. Get an intercooler and APS if you want then, I would probably get IC first and then get a protune. Doesn't make sense to waste money on a protune if he's just gonna need another.

The intake is not the problem, a vacuum leak or a bad sensor (I'd be targeting the front o2 first) is. If he hadn't mentioned the CAI, you guys wouldn't have jumped to that conclusion.
True, but he had the CAI before going stage 1 with no problems and the lean code didn't pop up until he flashed stage 1. Easy way to check. Clear the code, flash back to stock and drive around and see if the code comes back.

As far as the intake, I know it's great, I just think the money is better spent in other places first.

I ran my stage 1 with an sti pill. My map was tweaked to work with it though. The ECU wasn't happy before being tweaked as shown by logs, but never threw a code.
