Last week I bought a Cobb AP and installed stage 1 91 and this weekend while driving I got a check engine light well I checked the code once I got home and it was a lean code (P0130) I do have an aps 65mm CAI. the car never threw a lean code prior to the stage 1 map. My plan is go to stage 2 very soon.

So my question is, is there any way fix the lean issue with the AP or do I need a pro tune because of the CAI even once I get the down pipe to run a stage 2 map.

Ditch the CAI. They specifically designed the map for stock. That stock intake is fine for stage 1 and 2. There are plenty of other places to find power before having to resort to the intake, sell it and get to stage 2. Upgrade the intercooler. Worry about the intake once you start planning on upgrading the turbo, it's a waste and will only cause prblems on your current setup.

Prot tune = $400 roughly. Then he's gonna stage 2 and need another....

Sell the APS, buy a downpipe and go stage 2. Get an intercooler and APS if you want then, I would probably get IC first and then get a protune. Doesn't make sense to waste money on a protune if he's just gonna need another.

The intake is not the problem, a vacuum leak or a bad sensor (I'd be targeting the front o2 first) is. If he hadn't mentioned the CAI, you guys wouldn't have jumped to that conclusion.

^^This. BTW, the 65mm APS CAI is one of the best intakes on the market.
+1

Running a 65mm CAI, of any kind, isn't going to cause you tune issues on a stock MAF cal. You probably have a loose hose clamp or something like that. Post up a log of your AFR trims, and your AFR's.

True, but he had the CAI before going stage 1 with no problems and the lean code didn't pop up until he flashed stage 1. Easy way to check. Clear the code, flash back to stock and drive around and see if the code comes back.

As far as the intake, I know it's great, I just think the money is better spent in other places first.

You aren't going to make all the money back for selling the APS intake. I say keep it and just swap in the stock airbox for now to run stage 1. Get a protune later. The CAI will net you more cool air and is less restrictive than the stock airbox. The protune is a much better decision for long term reliability and netting better fuel economy. If that is not your cup of tea and you are fine with just the OTS maps, you can always sell off the intake and get something else with that money. Also, the OTS maps are designed for only the intended specific parts so a larger TMIC will not be optimal with stage 1 or 2 and will require a protune as well...but if you are getting a larger TMIC I suggest getting a different turbo.

Yes, please confirm the APS was not installed at the same time as the Cobb AP. If yes, then I would throw money in on Scott's assessment.

If not, then something is odd w/ the flash. But I'm really surprised. I've fiddled w/ the Cobb Stage 1 a little, and nothing seemed too odd that would create that affect.

I ran my stage 1 with an sti pill. My map was tweaked to work with it though. The ECU wasn't happy before being tweaked as shown by logs, but never threw a code.
