18 FXT premium with Baja Designs “fog lights” and 225/60/17 continental terrain contact A/T “winter tires” in wrx wheels, 19” RSB rest is stock.

Went up to South Lake Tahoe Via 5 to 50 on Friday, got caught in some crazy gridlock, Waze took us on some unplowed surface streets in the apple hill area. X-mode/ hill descent control combo worked great, had no problems with traction, smooth and steady was the key. Tahoe had blizzard like conditions over the weekend, no problems driving around town and unplowed streets. The driveway to the Airbnb had 1.5’ of powder which the Fxt had no problems dealing with, a 2nd gen CX-5 was actually stuck on the street the first night we were there, it was a slight uphill, so I had to make a 3 point turn and turn around to access the cabin from another street.
On the way back, we decided to take 207 to the 395 through the Easter sierras, temps were hovering around 8-11 degrees for the most part until we got to Bishop CA. It was a beautiful snowy/ Ice/ slushy drive. Glad to be back home to sunny for now LA

We got up to Tahoe last fall, before Forester (and before winter). Beautiful area. Amusing myself reading the CHP traffic site watching the mountain areas. Lots of crazy folks going up unprepared.

California is getting a real winter this year. Encountered sleet and snow at the Tejon pass last Sunday in the early evening. Was driving the Outback and it was never tested because a CHP vehicle led us up and down the hill at about 50 mph. Slowed things down but kept anyone from doing anything stupid . . . which is inevitable when there is precip in SoCal.

Good move

Hey Mtbkr, good move taking 395 back to LA. About the most beautiful drive in CA, IMHO.
