Still in the prototype stage, but wanted to share the latest from Kartboy.

The Kartboy Koaster:

I'm still in the process of testing putting it through the paces. Preliminary results are very promising. I still have not managed, no matter how hard I try, to leave a ring. I will be testing other containers in the near future though. I will stick with the same testing material in each container so as not to skew the results.

As you can see I have my work cut out for me, I will persevere. Stay tuned for a proper ScoobyMods page soon.

Is that an upgrade??

We have some of the OEM coasters, Peaty...

Yeah, but aftermarket > OEM

We should send you a bottle of that Anderson Valley Deep Enders Dark Porter in the picture... you might like it. :)
I'm not afraid of the dark

You, sir, have excellent taste in beer :)

Guiness for the win!

Any idea when the production runs begin??? I also really like the OEM 'all weather' model. Might have to start up a coaster collection even though we have no coaster worthy furniture. :D

That's good beer! I shipped a couple of cases back from a job in Booneville. I kinda remember going to their brew pub one night...
Even at a discount it was about 2$ a bottle.

If you show up a day early, I'm certain we can make a really nice little preview trip up to see the brewery again. We can do Fish Rock Rd. on the way up...

Sounds enticing. Problem is, I rarely drink anymore but when I do all the old bad habits come forth. You may not want to see me the next day if we hit the bars. Maybe I can behave myself?

Umm...a couple of things.

1. We would only be stopping there for lunch.
2. There would be at least a couple more hours of twisty roads which will prevent you from overindulging. You'd probably only want one.
3. You'd be well advised not to have a hangover for the tour the next day.

:D :D

1. If i'm driving fast at all, i'll watch others drink.

2. See no.1.

3. See no.1.
HAHA
i knew Peaty would treat the KK right :)
not sure if i have any plans for making these. i did a short run to give to my vendors as a thankyou. and Peaty since he does a kickass job on the install pages for the website.
just look at these pictures for a perfect example.

the Koasters are machined on our in house CNC. it takes roughly 10-15 minutes machine time to make just one. the stepover is 0.005 with a 1/64" cutter to make nice clean grooves. i should video tape it if i run some more. the machine is running at about 9700 RPM with a feed of 120 IPM the thing is flying!

Tom
Ya 9700 rpms humms along on the hass mill you got. Those koasters rule ass!

Tom did you link any pics? I took a few more:

I was hoping to hear that!!! 8) Ballnose or flat endmill, and what depth of cut??? It looks as if the radius' are bigger than 1/64", I'm guessing ballnose endmill .010-.015" depth of cut. :D

We need the video on our machinists thread.
i think it was -0.030 depth and a 1/16th cutter. i messed up on the other post :p
still took forever LOL. couldnt figure out how to mount them easily on the table. i wound up using some double stickie tape. full coolant running to keep the chips from melting back into the part.
now i need to change the coolant. its full of floating crap LOL

Tom
Tom,

Any chance of an Extended run?

Or perhaps doing some with the STi logo or the Suby stars (new and old skool design)??

Materials and time what do you think it might cost??

:D

1/16" sounds more like it. What about just running air instead of coolant??? I messed up on my post too, radius' :? how about radii. And a 1/64" cutter would cut a .0078" radius, pretty small.
i might do a short run. havent decided yet. the problem with doing the STi or any Subie logo is my ass getting sued!

Carl i'll check the mastercam code tomorrow and get the true numbers for you. i've run soo many different parts the past week i dont remember whats what!
i might be able to make some coasters this way. its a single countour pass..= lot less machine time.
still looks cool.
