I work as a dog trainer, and I drive my own dogs around all the time, so my main goal is to make my Forester as dog friendly as I can.

When I found this 2005 XT, it had several mods that I liked, and one or two I didn't like so much. I appreciate the black out lights on other other folks's cars, but it is not my favorite. The black out polished off pretty well.

-timing belt replaced
-serp belt replaced
-water pump replaced
-front brakes pads and rotors, rear brake pads
-new muffler,
-new hood scoop baffle
-valve cover seal replaced
-fired extinguisher bracketed to dog guard
-first aid kit carabinered to dog guard
-window noise project completed: aquarium tubing in lining, electrical tape on frayed gusset edges, cloth-coated pliers on gussets
-monogrammed rear seat cover/dog-proofer
-Yakima Load Warrior with extension
-Thule 1600 Atlantis cargo carrier
-Bulmastiff and Rat Terrier stickers galore, paw print license plate covers
-Tow hitch installed and Glide Away bike rack procured (with folding arms)
-Pioneer Bluetooth streaming hands free stereo installed
-Removed stickers, replaced rear lift gate (needed new wiper and latch and paint)
-Replaced rear bumper cover
-Modded grille by cutting our plastic inner, adding screen and rhinestone paw print

Classic shot with the dog using the "chin rest". Now that we've seen them here, we need to see them here.....http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f76/got-dogs-2230/
That looks so comfortable... Maybe I'll see you around on our many (shopping) trips to Bellingham!

Thanks for the link to that thread. I put up a pic and a vid.

No doubt I will run into you at Trader Joe's!
Picked up the new car from the shop tonight. No surprises, just all the mechanical maintenance and updating I intended to do when I bought it:

Timing belt, serp belt, water pump, seals, front brakes pads and rotors, rear brake pads, new muffler, new hood scoop baffle...

One big question: I thought the hood scoop was supposed to have a screen, but we ordered all the accouterments and no screen came... does the oem scoop not come with a screen to protect the intercooler's fins?
Recent work has included valve cover seal, new tires, and front brake adjustment. Car is running great and feeling better. Loving it!
Recent improvement: window noise

Took advice from different posts here and used vinyl tubing under the window seals. That helped a lot! Also did electrical tape on gussets, and bent them tighter with rag and pliers. Those things helped immensely, too! It is a mch quieter ride now!
the vinyl tubing helped my car for a year or so and then started causing a terrible noise. Let me know how yours works.

Fire Extinguisher and Swinging Bike Rack pics.

Fire extinguisher bracketed to dog guard, and bike rack in new tow hitch. Bike rack has been incredibly useful already, allowing dogs in and out of back while bike(s) stay on rack. With luck I will never have use for the extinguisher, but good to know it is there.

Grill Mod: $10 work in progress

My old grill was cracked and rattling, but the wife is a little irritated with $ on car lately. My dad and I tried to do a grill mod for under $10... It is a little funky but it was fun. It is still a work in progress.
