Seems so simple, but just want to make sure. Looked in the manual and found nothing. Can I use a household window cleaner?
Thank you!

yes, I'm almost positive the factory tint is in the glass not a film they put on. Tint film will be destroyed by ammonia but I don't think windex has ammonia

Yes, definitely. Though I suggest the car window specific window cleaners from your local auto store, much easier to use and cleans without streaks.

I believe it is safe to use Windex on factory tint; however, I have found Stoner Invisible Glass to be superior to Windex and it does not contain ammonia. My wife even uses Invisible Glass in the house now.

Stoner Invisible glass is the best window cleaner I've ever used. A close and less costly second is Sprayway glass and stainless cleaner. Neither contain ammonia and both products make good light duty spot carpet cleaners.

+1 on the Stoner. I've already used in on the Forester tinted glass with no ill effects.

I agree 100%! I use the Stoners original formula for the insides (because of the aftermarket tint) and their water repel (purple label) on the outside windows.

Windex contains ammonia.

You should not use it with tint, even factory tint.

I learn the hard way on our new Toyota bought last year. Basically I used Windex on the factory tinted windows once every 2 weeks when I wash my car. For about half a year, through repeated use, there were tiny specs of white bubbles. Very tiny and hard to see, but it is there.

The stoner invisible glass is the way to go. That is all we used for my wife's Forester. So far so good.

Factory tint is the color of the glass! Try cleaning the color off of a beer bottle!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The high tint on the front windshield is on the plastic layer that is sandwiched between layers of glass.

Use all the Windex or anything else that you want. You will not harm the glass. However, that black painty shaddow stuff on the windshield around the mirror may dissolve in strong solvents like laquer thinner, but why would anyone use that?

^^ I agree with the above statement 100%. Invisible Glass is amazing. Also, any glass cleaner in an aluminum can that foams works wonders as well.

... Can I use a household window cleaner?... !
Factory tint is in the glass itself and cannot be affected any cleaner.
After market tint is a film applied to the interior side of the glass.
The household cleaner Windex contains "Ammonia-D", according to the label.
Ammonia is used to remove window tint films:
... spray ammonia liberally on the inside of the back window and cover ammonia soaked tint with the plastic bag so that it won't evaporate. ... When you are ready to start peeling, leave the plastic in place so the ammonia wont dry.

My brother works for Pella windows and this is ALL they use, I was amazed at this stuff but it is not readily available and by the way, I also use Invisible glass and that is what's in my garage but I will be getting some Moonshine when that runs out.
