I am dying to get rid of my crappy geolanders for something with a little more performance. The problem is that the pilot sport a/s tires I want to put on do not come in stock size. Would it be a problem to run a 225 width tire on the stock rim or am I going to lose too much sidewall stiffness. If this is going to be a problem could someone recommend other tire options I may be interested in.

Is it ok to run 225's on 06xt stock rims?
Yes, do it!

In theory, it should decrease the MPG a little bit, correct?
Yes, b/c of the wider footprint it should decrease but ever so slightly that it really isn't noticeable.

IIRC, the stock 06 FXT wheels are the same dimensions as the '04-'05 FXT. I am running 225/60/16s on my stock wheels.

I havent seen a loss in gas milage. I have actually gotten 1-2 miles more per gallon.
That is b/c you are running a lower profile tire 225/50/16 vs. a 60 tire so your odometer will read higher so you will think that you gain mileage but in actuality you might have decreased it.
