Just purchased an 04 fxt not too long ago and am looking at getting an AP. I don’t really have the luxury of shelling out $650, let alone $500 for a used v3 so my question is: does anyone still run their v2 AP and what does this entail? I know Cobb stopped running support for the v2, but does that mean I can’t use their map software to download and store more maps? Does the v2 already come loaded with all the maps available for my fxt, assuming it’s both unmarried and updated? Just trying to see whether it’s a good idea to get a killer deal on a used v2 or save for a v3 if all I plan to do is run the stock OTS and stage 1 maps before I do anything big, which I would most likely get a pro tune for anyway. I guess I would consider myself the type to flash and store in the glovebox considering I’m the casual spirited driver and don’t need to monitor gauges real time or anything unless I really should be.

Yes, the V2 comes pre-loaded with all the platform u specific Maps that cobb offers, however the unit itself is no longer supported for new version of the tuning program, on both home and professional levels. So basically you are stuck with the shelf maps, which sometimes are a little flawed depending on the age of your vehicle.

If you are planning to do bigger and better things and need a proper retune from a tuner/shop, the V2 wont be able to be tuned. I would save and get the V3.

I traded mine in late in November - there was a 'special' designed to make this happen. Plus, Cobb is saying 'end of support'.

But if you have had tunes on it from a shop...they will still work? Is this right?

i mean i drive an 04 fxt and would most likely only use the OTS stage 1 map for a better tune. the peak TQ and HP seem to be more desirable than stock. not sure if this is a gamble or not if all i want is to run a better stock tune for now. the way i see it, if i planned to make bigger gains, I'd probably be more financially stable to purchase a v3 haha.

I saw this deal, but it doesn't seem feasible because then I'd be up in that price range of just buying a used v3. it's a cool promo though for existing v2 users for sure.

But if you have had tunes on it from a shop...they will still work? Is this right?
from what I understand, yes but they'd only be for that specific car which would then be wiped once you unmarried for someone else...anyone else want to chime in?

Right. That's how APs work. But it shouldn't be a big thing saving the tune, getting the old AP unmarried, and the tune moved to the new AP and installed.

Yes, they are still on the AP, they wont magically disappear unless you manually delete them off there, OR uninstall the AP from the ECU.

Just to clarify, the V2's are still functional for the car, and if you already have your own version of ATR, it will still work fine, but keep in mind for when the unit eventually wears out, and they do, they arent that sturdy and those bottom connectors tend to break down, you wont be able to send it back to COBB for repair. People buying a V2 second hand will no longer be able to get the ATR program from COBB (home use) anymore and i believe they ended the trade-in discount too.
