Pretty much, yes. If you can find an aftermarket key, legally speaking they are required to program it, since you are allowed to use any brand of direct replacement part to maintain your vehicle. (Dealer is the only one who can program it, unfortunately.)

That said, there probably AREN'T any aftermarket keys out there for these late model Subarus.

My subaru specialist was able to supply a used door opener module and reprogram.

You should be able to get a subaru key cut that will open the doors assuming you locked your regular key in the cay. Is the key an immobilizer key? I really don't know.

But at any rate you have 3 keys.

The local Ace hardware store has a key and FOB that looks just like my daughters 2015 key. Said they could cut the key and program the FOB for $189.00, or she could get a key with chip for $79 with out the FOB part.
