I've always bought my ipod new but last night I traded my xbox for a nice 32gb touch and some cash. Well anyways, am I pretty much screwed when I plug in this "New" ipod? Meaning will I loose all of the songs and apps on this thing.

so all my existing songs will just add onto this one and I won't loose what this other person bought?

What may happen is it will ask you to authorize the new ipod.
I believe itunes checks the serial numbers of iPods connected to your itunes computer.

Worse case: all music and apps is gone
best case: the new music will be added to your library

when you plug that ipod up to your comp, it will sync to your itunes library.
anything on the ipod will be deleted.

download a program called copytrans.
i used that program when i bought my itouch, it had some good songs on it that i wanted to keep, it will give you instructions on how to get the songs off.

do not sync until you have what you want off. it will be deleted.

apple made it with the intention of not allowing people to share music, to prevent pirating.
