Hi, i have a 2010 FXT and am thinking of upgrading to the Hyperflow top mount intercooler. According to their website it can give up to 15kW increse without any other mods. How true is this and is it worth it?

don't believe their marketing hype. An intercooler (think of it as simply a heatsink) is not a performance upgrade in itself, it plays more of a supporting role when you have upgraded the turbo, exhaust and upped the boost via a tune. If you are stock standard you will not see any performance gain.

speak to some Subaru specialists like All Star Garage, RMS or MMS or go to ozfoz.com for more perth specific info

I have seen some figures I tend to believe which show a 4.5 psi drop across the standard intercooler at 6000 rpm. If a new intercooler has less internal flow resistance due to a larger size then you could reasonably expect to get a performance gain with no other mods required.

Some quick n dirty figures... say we double the intercooler cross section, and hence halve the restriction, we then have 1/2 the pressure drop or 2.25 psi more at the inlet manifold. Figures from various sources suggest the standard tune has a target 12 psi boost, measured at the turbo outlet and at 6000 rpm we are loosing 4.5 psi across the TMIC, then the inlet manifold gets 7.5 psi. With the new TMIC this figure would increase to 9.75 psi, or a 13% increase. Would that provide a 13% increase in power (169kw up to 191kw)? I don't know but it's certainly going to to be noticeable.

there is some interesting reading here http://ozfoz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=13813
