Folks, I'm in the final stages of supercharging my 01 forester. SO to lower my air fuel temps I have to install a IC with a 3 gal water reservoir, lines, heat exchanger and IC. The problem is where to install this monster! If I put it in the back of the car I'm running at least 15 foot of water hoses. has anyone done this setup. My subie is a NA 2.5 with a supercharger from Raptor. any help will be appreciated.

The only place I can think of is in the cargo area. If you're going to mount it back there, you may as well go with a larger water container... say 5 gallons!

I assume you're going with intercooler mister kit. as you need to control the water flow. Too much water will trap the heat! You need air flow to evaporate the misted water, which will cool the intercooler.

hey Bobby, I figured if anyone answered up it would be you. Its an intercooler kit from frozen boost. Its a closed system circulating through the res, heat exchanger and water to air cooler. The water is pushed with a bosch pump going to the heat exchanger with a 7 inch fan in the front.

I don't know too much about a misting setup. according to the guys its enough to bring the temps down. Right now the air/fuel temps are hitting 190 and it screws the timimg. The shop put in a governor so I cant go above 4k as to not hurt the car. This is the last step before finishing the tune and make the runs on the dyno.

You car setup is awesome!

Bobby, the engine is pretty low mileage and is stock, na,non turbo. I'm running 7 lbs boost max.
I know eventually I will have to build the engine stronger using arp hardware etc. I'm def not building it to be a super road racer. I just needed a lil more *** to handle my steep , bumpy, rocky mountain roads and just getting more grunt than anything. yes she is very crisp but def not a dragster. My hot rod days are over but there is nothing wrong with wanting a lil more with slight mods. LOL also I get a lil chuckle from the whine of the supercharger. The shop I am using is Mass acceleration in NC. These guys make some cars that will blow your mind! I thought I had something with my stage 3 roush mustang (Black jack). While putting my car together I read tons of your posts.

I will eventually either build a scooped hood for more cooling or locate a donor hood from an older subie. the plumbing of this monster cooler is going to be the death of me I believe.

Okay, N/A stock engine. My son's '03 X had a touch over 6K miles on it in '05 when the first AVO turbo kit was installed by a performance shop. I was never happy with the work the performance shop did, so after I retired, we reinstalled AVO turbo kit. I bought another AVO turbo kit! It took use all summer to reinstall & it was great fun! The '03 X is still running perfectly at a touch over 30K miles now.

Ideally, to prevent destroying the high compression N/A - naturally aspirated engine, It's best to keep the boost <6 psi. I've seen lots of forum members "push the envelope & it never ends well! :icon_eek:

At <6 psi, you could run without an intercooler, which simplifies the installation.

We will try the other pulley that came with the Raptor kit and see what we get in boost. So I guess its going in the back just behind the rear passenger seat. I will try and post some pics in the next couple days to keep ya posted.

I will try to keep up this post so others can see what turns out after the car is finished with numbers etc from the dyno. Thanks for the input.

@foul hook I can move this thread over to the Members' Journal sub-forum. The title can also be tweaked... changed, if you prefer a different thread title.

You could also start a brand new thread in the Members' Journal sub-forum.

The nice thing about the the Member's Journal is that you don't have to stay completely on subject, as is required in other parts of the forum... it's your own piece of the forum.

The NA EJ is an open deck engine which can't keep head gaskets from leaking. Moreover the compression ratio of boosted engines should be lower. Just as long as you realize you could easily destroy the engine. Not saying you shouldn't go ahead but if money is tight...............

Good luck with the project!!

@foul hook one thing to keep in mind, you will need a "Table of Contents" with links to your Member Journal posts! Without one, as the journal grows, it gets too difficult to navigate! :icon_eek:

On our '03 X Member Journal, the TofC is on the second page, whereas on my '07 FSXT, my first journal, I didn't realize I needed a TofC until page 124! No matter, as the TofC can be anywhere within the journal, as you can link to it.
