"In transit"

I'm looking to upgrade to a '19 soon and am having a helluva time finding any Limiteds or Touring trims in stock in the Socal area. Every dealer website I've looked at shows a nice healthy stock of Foresters (maybe ~50-60 on average). I then go to sort by Limited or Touring trim and there are usually 15-20 available, but oh, wait.... 19 out of 20 of them are "In transit", lol. This is the case at practically every dealer I've looked at so far.

At first I thought it was a weird website bug, but now I'm questioning what is going on here. Did some crazy Forester tycoon swoop in over the weekend and buy up all of the Limited and Touring Foresters? Does "In transit" mean multiple things?

Just trying to figure this out. Are these vehicles selling so fast that they can't keep them on the lots? If so, do I need to ask them to hold one for me so I have time to drive down and check one out? I live about 3 hours from the nearest dealer.

Don't know about the rest of the country but here in the northeast, 99% of the ones that are touring and say in transit are already accounted for since they are ordered by the buyer.

So it sounds like they are either just insanely in-demand or dealers don't keep many on the lots?
yea, pretty much sold before being on the lot.
I had to put in a factory order for my '19 Forester Sport and it showed up as "in transit" on the dealer's website new inventory list before I even got notified by the sales guy. From order to pick up it was about 6 weeks.

I really hope that's the timeline scenario or less. My bank won't finalize the auto loan until they get a VIN number and it's good until the 6th next month and the Forester is expected to be in about 2 weeks after that. Usually from what I've read, some members get their vin # 2 weeks before its arrival at the dealership. Its cutting it close.
TS out
