NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors' deal to sell its Hummer brand to a Chinese automaker fell through Wednesday and the company said it now plans to shut down the brand.

GM did not give any details about why the agreement to sell Hummer to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co. Ltd. could not be completed, saying only that it was disappointed it was unable to close the deal.

"The large SUV brand is based on the Humvee military vehicle."

...uh no, it's based on the Chevy Suburban actually. Or a barn. They should sell it to Hino in Japan.

lol it would have been nice if they had actually made some innovative offroad vehicles, instead of just slapping a box onto other gm trucks. The H1 was pretty cool, wish they had actually done something with the name though. The H2 will always be the joke of all trucks.

Right! After the first generation there hasn't been a bit of the Mil-Spec DNA of the original Humvee in it. They were cobbled together from parts they found around the Yukotahoburbalade factory, the bigger the better.
