I noticed the drivers side rear brake light bulb is out on my 2011 Forester 2.5x. I opened up the back hatch and don't see an obvious way to get access to replace the bulbs.

Before I started removing things in trial and error, I figured I'd ask here first.

How do I get access to change the taillight bulbs?

There are detailed instructions in the owner's manual. Look in the maintenance and service section under Replacement of bulbs.

That said, remove the two 10mm screws, insert a trim tool into the gap between the body and the forward edge of the lamp assembly and pull straight to the rear. It's held in place with three or four clips.

The lamp holders come out with a quarter turn to the left.

Take off the 10mm bolts and pull the light will come off. Do yourself a favor and replace in sets.
