I've got a 2018 Subaru Forester. I'm noticing that unlike my old car (which had a $30 blue-tooth->Aux adapter), people to whom I talk on my cell phone via blue-tooth say they can't hear me well and there's a lot of noise. The quality of the microphone setup just isn't very good for some reason. I want a better experience while talking on the phone in the car; would an aftermarket stereo help? Is it known which one has the best quality for calls in the car? I wouldn't mind Apple Play either. What are my options?

I had a Pioneer BT headunit in my old car and the best I have found is to hang loose on wire the external mic (supplied with radio) on the driver visor, so it will not pick up car vibration.

Hi. My Forester 2018 here in Panama came with a non CarPlay headunit. The bluetooth is also very weak, not being able to stream music from an iPhone from the backseat. I wonder if you have a suggestion of an aftermarket replacement audio headunit with CarPlay that will fit the Forester 2018 and what will happen with functions like the back camera and perhaps other integrated functions?

Check out what I ended up doing in this thread. Had a 2016 FXT with the 7" Starlink, crappy bluetooth calling, no carplay, horrible navigation with SD cards that constantly didn't work and upgraded it to a 200mm Kenwood DDX916WS so it would still look stock but give me all the goodies I wanted. Turned out really nice but I just recently traded it in and while I pulled it out beforehand, it won't work in my new vehicle.
