Hi all,

As per the thread title how reliable is the "reading ECU Error codes" process.

I'm almost certian that I have minor issue MAF/02 sensor perhaps since MPG is down quite a lot, idle just doesn't seem smooth as it was. However I've tried the ECU error code proces & the computer says 'no' problem.

So is this a reliable process or can the ECU mask/hide problems. If this is possible what is the best way diagnose possible faults.

The ECU only throws a code if a sensor is out of the "normal range". There can be an issue or failing sensors, but still be just within spec for it to think things are "normal" enough. I had a ripped hose that basically created a giant vacuum leak, the car still idled, and never threw a code, but ran pretty badly and was spraying oil over my engine bay!
