2010 5MT X Premium / 6664 on odometer at fill up / primarily on rural two lanes with maybe 20% in town driving

The fuel light came on at 442 miles

Measured MPG was 32.44. Given I only put 15.42 gallons in (have done 15.72 / one squeeze after auto shutoff and yes I know I shouldn’t do that  ) I could have wrung out a few more miles but it was raining and I didn’t want to risk it… The fuel gauge is fairly steady until a notch above empty then you can literally watch it fall to two or three notches below; there’s no small pucker factor.

And I aired my tires (I’m embarrassed to say how much I put in them) at about 375 miles during this tank so now I’m wondering just what the limit is.

BTW: I don't recommend doing this for a variety of reasons but if you're the type that does... :icon_wink:

Impressive. Did you drive it until it actually quit? How many miles could you drive after the light came on?

Spill the beans, how high did you have your tire pressure? How is the terrain flat or hilly ?

I'm curious how much air was in your tires too? Anyway I just did 339.3 miles and filled up when the gauge was just below 3/4 between empty and 1/4 tank. I get 100 miles per 1/4 tank and the last 1/4 was going as planned so I'm sure I would of been at 400 mile at the empty line and any car I've own you could go 20 - 50miles past the empty line and no I've never out of gas.

I didn't run out of gas / went 58 miles after light came on / first 375 miles tires had about 28 psi / last 125 aired to 36 psi - I hadn't added any air in the nearly 4 months I owned the vehicle yes I am a slacker :icon_redface:

Having added .3 gallon more once I'm confident I could have gone a bit further.

Terrain was NW Arkansas/NE Oklahoma which consists of about equal measures flat and gently rolling, and a comparatively few significant hills.

Charis,

Both impressive and interesting!

My best range to date is 452 miles /14.102 US gallons =32.05 mpg.
My best single tank mileage is 34.83 mpg = 400 miles / 11.485 US gallons.
My largest fill up was 14.706 US gallons after 448 miles (30.46 mpg). The fuel light came on at 417 miles, which calculates out at 13.7 gallons used.

Your fuel light came on 442 miles. At 32.44 mpg, that calculates out at 13.63 gallons used.

I like consistency!

Regards,
Jim / crewzer

That betters my best mpg by 2.4; extrapolating 547 miles is achieveable IF you don't mind running it down to nearly vapors which I am told carries some mechanical risk.

I'm hoping someone will weigh in with a higher fill up number so we know just how far you can push these things.

Someday if the right road trip presents itself I might try a whole tank at 50-55 mph which seems to me to be the sweetest spot.

Thanks for all the responses!

I ran out of gas and luckily coasted into the gas station I planned to stop at. I had a good idea of how much gas I'd used, and expected to get at least another ten miles if I wanted. I only managed to put 14.7 gallons in, but the both the owner's manual and the specifications sheet on this web site says that it should hold 15.9 gallons. That's a pretty big difference. Has anyone put more than 15 gallons in when filling up an '06?

I average about 250 until the last ¼tank mark in my daily commute.
I've seen 390 on my trip home from the dealership with it... I was babying it then as I didn't want to even tempt a speeding ticket with NY temp tags and a Canadian everything else.

On the highway with my VF43 I can push it into the 325 range easily enough before I get too far past the ¼tank mark.

Gee, and I thought I was doing well when I got (IIRC) 423 miles.
That was including a mountain pass. I usually do really well on passes because I take it easy on the way up, and then on the way down I switch between 5th, 4th, and N (coasting) to keep it at the speed limit without needing any gas or brake. I'll go for miles and miles free that way.
Also, that was on California gas. I don't know why, but I always get better fuel economy on California gas on the way back up north than Oregon gas on the way down south, in both the Fozzie and the Civic. Weird

I get around 360 miles from a full tank to gas light on premium fuel (93). This is will 85% highway driving on a given day.
 That's 100 miles more than I get.

On long freeway trips I've gone as far as 317.6 miles on 12.883 gallons = 24.65MPG. How do you manage 360?

I'd say it's the 93 octane gas. That kind of mileage is something we'll just never see on CA 91 premium.

I do 95% city driving in a hilly area, so I'm happy to hit 200 miles per tank with the XT. 180 is probably average. On the highway I've done 375 miles (14.1 gallons) for a 26.6 average in my XT. In the X we drove home on I-5 from Sacramento to Seattle and we managed to do 475 miles on one tank for 33.4 mile average.

I miss our SVX sometimes... 430 miles per tank on an all-highway run at speeds upwards of 85 mph.

Man I'm jealous. On the highway I get 22-24, and around town i get around 18. Usually get 220-240 to where i'm comfortable. Don't like to run it empty as I killed the factory fuel pump by running it too low and taking too high a G corner which left the pump dry.
