I've always driven manual cars but this is the first with a hill holder feature so I decided to give it a try. I approach a red light on top of a hill, step on the clutch and apply the brakes. I release the brakes, clutch is still to the floor, it holds for about 5 seconds or so and then I 'psssst' and I start rolling backwards.
Is this normal? I was under the impression as long as I held the clutch in I could stay there all day long.
Correct, '09+ uses a electronic hill holder that holds the brakes for __ seconds of the brake being released. Unlike previous years that had a mechanical hill holder that will hold the brakes indefinitely until the clutch is released.
^^ I believe '03 in the Forester, not sure on the year for the impreza. I don't believe the Outback has ever had it as an option(may be wrong) .
This applies up to and including '08 Ask Technical: Subaru Hill-Holder
I guess that's fine anyway. Living near San Fran, you learn to use hand parking brake as your hill holder. No problems!
