Lately I’ve been getting higher than normal coolant temps. It has been reaching ~225 (highest 227). The radiator fans work and this morning is the first time the overflow spilled over. The heater blows hot as well. I am suspicious of the T-stat. My one confusion is when the fans kick on the temp starts to go down when at idle but when driving temp goes back up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

change thermostat .use oem only . check temp sending unit , either it is getting hotter than the gauge says , or not, this can be fan delay,................ thermostat stuck partially shut .................., weak water pump ..............internally collapsed hose, or bad head gasket, after thermostat change out if it still then run compression test and gas exhaust in coolant check.................. it is more rare , but a weak oil pump can cause overheat too

@leland grant Thank you for the advice!
What fluid would be closest to OEM? I am away for work and have an autozone nearby but no Subaru dealer. I am planning on getting a T stat there as well till I can get an OEM Subaru one.
