Hi all,

I have recently had the engine management light accompanied with flashing cruise light, so I need a scan/reset tool. Last time I tried to buy one of these for a different vehicle, I ended up buying something pretty awful

I have searched through previous threads, but most are old and links or product names are no longer valid.

Can anyone recommend a tool that is current and works OK?

cheers

Pete
p.s. I was running on reserve fuel, so if I had to guess, it would be exhaust sensor.

Where abouts in Surrey are you? I'm sure there's someone local that could read and reset it for you

Do you have an Android phone by chance? If so, Torque App is free and with a Bluetooth OBD2 module, will let you read and reset your own engine codes
I use this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-OBD...m=323542488890&_trksid=p2045573.c100507.m3226

Edit: It has worked on a 2005, 2006 Forester, 2007 Honda, 2009 Seat, 2004 Toyota and a 2003 Peugeot with no issues at all. All those were Pre-Canbus from memory though if that makes a difference

I am between Guildford and Cranleigh. Not really in a village as such, more like living in a bush.

Yes, I do have an Android phone, although I have tried using it before with a connector and it was flaky as hell. Having said that - the ebay one is so cheap I might as well give it a go. I have a Facelift forester - is that canbus or no?

(you gave me an answer and here I am now asking more questions....sorry :icon_rolleyes: )

Just realised you have an 06. Yes it should work as it worked on the 06 Facelift I had before I sold it.

It will only read engine codes, not transmission, brake or airbag codes though.

You're a bit far from me in Sussex - Shame as I was in Guildford a couple weeks ago for work.

Haha.....it happened a few weeks back. SPerfect timing if I had posted when it happened

If it only does engine, maybe I will pass on that and focus on a bigger box.

Out of interest - you say transmission. Would a 5 speed manual even have the ability to talk to the ecu? Maybe you just meant autos? I guess I am going to have to learn more or find a good specialist....
