This plastic piece where windshield meets fender is cracked and rattles like crazy, hoping someone can help me name it so I can replace.

Are you still under warranty? You should take it to the Dealer for an assessment.

If the price is quite high, I would ask for an accommodation depending on the circumstances of your window replacements.

Im pretty sure thats how the piece came. Well at least I dont believe it's cracked. It might just have come loose. You could always try adding some 3m tape to secure it and stop the rattle. At least thats what I did to the same piece on the wifes 2013 forester.

Had to have a windshield replaced, the glass guys broke the clips on both left and right sides and I found this out when driving and piece flew off the car.. RTV fixed the problem!

We have a 2017 XT Touring. Just brushed away the snow and checked. Don't have piece exactly like that, but what we do have is a continuous part - no gap or "crack" like in your photo
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they're more aesthetic than functional. I just removed mine altogether after the clips broke when I had my windshield replaced.

my passenger side one is continuous, so it's definitely cracked. I imagine it's a $50 part OEM, $20 elsewhere.

Just need to know what it's called or a link or something... Too bad Benny's gone

I broke one end of that piece when I removed it while running my Sirius radio antenna wire behind it to roof. Like mentioned its just a beauty piece I reattached it with velcro tape. Windshield installers are notorious for breaking clips and hardware during their work and not bothering to fix anything hoping it will go unnoticed- really disgusting.

I believe this is the part you're looking for: https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-2014-2...SIDE-LH-Forester-MPN-91423SG010-/192425304033
I didn't look closely at your photo to see that the 2017 trim piece is one piece not two like my 2015 one.

Don't think this is it BTW, it's got texture on it as if it goes on the interior of the vehicle. Description seems to fit, but seems off.
Hmmm, the part # is same as what Miker104 found, that's the main thing. For $5 definitely worth checking out at a local dealer parts dept.
Last time I replaced the windshield, replaced the cowling, and this is part of the cowling, In 2000 Forester, it
is 3 piece, held in by clips, which the windshield guys break. This part helps keep the water off (the windshield
wiper/linkage assembly).
You can pry it off with a flathead screwdriver, and (in 2000), if I remember, an offset one helped.
This is the “cowl” like mentioned. Both mines were cracked at the clips because the dealership wasn’t too patient. Its cheap to replace but annoying to remove. Definitely aesthetic.
The part you need is a cowl panel. Remember to order based on sitting in the vehicle so left would be the side you need. I would probably just stick some 3M strip caulk under it and call it a day, but if this is the only application a box of the caulk would actually cost four times as much as a new OEM panel. Strip caulk is great for situations where tabs get broken off or there is a rattle due to gaps between parts. It stays flexible and sticky for basically ever, but is easier to remove than silicone or velcro for the next windshield replacement. It works well for rattling speaker covers, consoles, etc

Yep, the same peice came loose on my 2014 Forester after I had a windshield replaced. My Subaru dealer had it in stock, cheap, and I took it to the place that did my windshield repair and they installed it for no charge. In the meantime, do what I did .... Duck Tape it!
