My wife mentioned to me that she was having some heat issues with her '02. I hopped in and the first thing that I noticed was that the heat was always on. No matter what I set the temp dial to it blows nothing but hot air. Doesn't seem to have any engine heating issues, just what comes out of the vents.

Has anyone had a similar issue, and if so, is it something that I can do or are we looking at a hefty service bill?

'02, auto transmission, manual heater controls

Thanks in advance.

In my 2001 you can switch your vents to draw either from outside the car, or recycle the cabin air. Mine blows hot air if I have it on the outside source, even if I have my heat turned off. But when I switch it to recycle the cabin air, the unwanted heat stops.

Is this what is happening to you?

Sounds like the heater valve is stuck open.

I've never done it on a Subaru, but it's been a pretty simple process on my other cars (Volvos).
