Happy Friday,
Looks like I will be pulling the trigger on a 2015 XT premium for the Mrs. My biggest grip is the outdated head unit and MFD. Disclosure: i have searched the forum and found some useful content, but they are either fairly old, or Android oriented. I have broken my concerns/questions into must-haves and "nice to haves". Any info, links, pics, etc you can provide is appreciated.

Which Modern Headunit would you go with and why? We use apple products so Adroid-based systems would not be idea IMO. What harness, Adapters, Dongles, stepdowns, etc will be needed to accomplish below. Will the average audio guy understand this or do i need a Subi expert? Is Autohanushaus.com still the best source?

Must-Haves
My biggest objective is to have to get the Backup Camera off the mfd and onto the main screen I will be replacing it with.
*Must Turn on camera feed when put in reverse.
*Must leave all hands free control in use.
*Bluetooth/voice must operate as well or better than factory.
What all will the small mfd screen show if the functions above are moved?

Nice-To Haves
*additional OBD2 info display
*additional video inputs that can be manually accessed. (additional cameras/Firestick)
*Apple carplay or similar
Additional handsfree capabilities.

I really appreciate your input guidance. Hoping to get an idea of the cost and if this is a driveway gig or need a pro. I am not mechanically illiterate, but have limited car audio/interior electronics experience.

Thanks. I now know that I do not need to rule out "Android" units. Still really curious what I need to get the backup camera display down there and operating as normal, which dash kit needs the smallest modification, and how to retain stock amp.

You can update your MFD a little by swapping in a unit from a WRX/STI that has the better boost display. It's an update at least??
The issue with moving the reverse camera to the stereo screen is finding a stereo that is booted up and ready to display the video quickly enough. So be sure to check that out before taking the function away from the MFD.

Checkout Crutchfield. There now are adapters available now for the 14-18 Foresters that will allow Apple CarPlay Double DIN headunits to work with steering wheel controls, backup camera video, and even some additional vehicle diagnostics to display on those headunits.

I use the alpine ILX-207 which has all the functions you want, but you will need the Maestro RR unit which makes wiring plug and play. Also when you look for a radio look for IDatalink logo that will give you all the functions you want and be able to program your buttons as you see fit.
