Subaru has won approval as an official police supplier by the Police Information Technology Organisation.
UK police forces already use the Subaru Impreza model, however the company are hoping they also take up the Legacy and Forester makes as well.
Subaru has established a specialist motor services outsource company, Landar, to run a specific Police Sales Unit.
The car manufacturer has announced that this unit run by programme manager Lance Jenkins has already received orders for a number of unmarked Imprezas and Legacys by various constabularies.
The new-look Forester 2.5 XT is the first liveried vehicle to begin trials. It has a 230 PS turbocharged engine, which is capable of 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds.
Mr Jenkins highlighted that while many forces knew about the Impreza's performance, few people appreciated that the Forester model is ideal as an all-terrain vehicle.
He continued: "The legacy is also very attractive as a low-profile 'stealth' car where covert surveillance and eventual pursuit is required."
