Hey guys FOrester 2000 5 speed 2.5 SOHC in topshape that I swapped last year still running strong... but I have an outstanding deal for an H6 from an Outback 2001 ( so I think its the EZ30D? )

I've done all the reading i could possibly do and google searches for different threads, seen some peeps attack the job, sounds good.

So what I think I know:
The engine (EZ30) physically fits and bolts up to my EJ25 transmission and the mounts are supposed to also..

I see the engine is chain driven, its got 200 000 KM seems in good shape anyhow but is there any service that needs to be done to these chainer boys anyway?

I know there will be some wiring and I'm quite confortable with that but does anybody have more 'DETAIL' I have the ECU with the deal..so where do you start when you start "wiring" Can I use the EZ30's engine as a standalone just for fuel management and have the other ECU sit there and do what it as doing earlier?

Thanks

Any other comments greatly appreciated

Hopefully the H6 Impreza thread on Nasioc was among your reading.

A 200,000km EZ30 doesn't have any required services, but that is assuming the timing chain tensioners are still functioning correctly.
before installing it would be wise to replace both serpentine idler pulleys. They'll be next to impossible to replace in a Forester without pulling the radiator, which will need to be sourced from a Legacy as well. I can't remember which, but either the 01-04 or 05-09 fits better. You'll have to confirm dimensions yourself.

The engine/transmission will bolt together just fine.
You can run two ECUs, but I doubt it will cooperate well enough for emissions testing purposes should you have that in your area.

Most of my concerns mostly orbit around the following :

The EZ30 is pulled from an auto outback, how hard is it to wire the ECU to cooperate with my 5MT? (Getting my cruise to work and such)

Does my fuelpump need to be upgraded

and the EZ30D and EZ30R (Your comparison from 01-04 and 05+) have the same dimensions and is mostly diffferent from its internals with its variable valve lift and timing, also making ECU fitment more difficult. I think maybe you confuse the EG33 which is of much bigger size and requires fitment issues to be solved aswell as wiring.

Thanks for your input!

One other thing I'm wondering is :

How well can my 5MT hang in there? I mean I just replaced my viscuous unit, new oil and transfer gears, the gearbox seems in very good shape no slop and no grinding on shifts except for a very mild whine at highway speeds in 5th gear.

Thanks
