Grease nipple/zert in aftermarket lower ball joint?!

2442 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  sleepstate
I have just received a pair of aftermarket ball joints with nipples in the top.

I haven't done Forester ball joints before, but it doesn't look like there is rooms for nipples about the joint (in the cup, where the pinch bolt is).

Is the correct course of action to grease through the nipple, then remove the nipple to fit the ball joints?

Sounds right.
Which ball joints did you get? And can we see a picture?
Just cheapo Japarts ones from ICP. They look alright; if it fixes the knocking then I'll get posh ones in a while.

Yep. Grease them, then pull the zerk off.
Hopefully later in life you will be able to screw the fitting back in after it's been in use.
Wow that's weird, never seen a Subaru ball joint with grease fittings... How are you supposed to lube those on the car?

Remove them from the car.

I've only seen ball joints with zerks on the cheapest of the cheap parts for Subaru ($8 or $15 ball joints) Mostly because they are designed like this, which is useless.
