Just binge read your entire build. Really great stuff. Do you ever plan on doing a roof basket? I see a lot of off-road foresters doing it.
Also, maybe a dumb question.... What did you do with your old wheels and tires? I want to upgrade mine setup but live in an apartment and don't have storage for an extra set.
Thanks for taking the time to post all this! keep up the good work.
Subirich, After reading this thread, I decided to get an ADF lift. I just installed it this weekend, and went with 235/70-16 General Grabber AT tires. I got some new black steel wheels which have a 42 offset. And you couldn't get any taller or wider of a tire in there without major wheel well mods. So the 235/65-16 tires are a good bet, but you'll still need a 42 or lower offset wheel.
Overall the install was technically easy, but I have tons of tools. I wouldn't recommend trying it without two jacks, jack stands and various length breaker bars (or better, a pneumatic impact wrench), some ratchet straps to line things up, a full set of metric wrenches and ratchets -- and time.
Get this, I was a little confused by the instructions on both Saturday and Sunday, and Patrick from ADF called me back both days and got me going again. Awesome customer service.
If you do any off road, and are on the fence, I'd say go for it.
Thanks. Memorial weekend I followed some jeeps on an OHV trail that I probably shouldn't have been on and ripped my bumper half off and a side trim piece all the way off. I kept up with the jeeps though!
After seeing Geojosh's setup and off-roading pictures I am convinced this is what I need to do.

apologies for the technically ignorant question. The math on your lift is confusing me. I see a 1.5"F/1.75"R lift but it lookd like you only gained .8 inches in front? you measured 9.5" and I'm assuming a standard 8.7" ground clearance- Am I missing something- or is it you went to 17" rim?

A few months ago at 96,000 miles, I had a valve body failure in my CVT. This was repaired under the CVT warranty extension. Had the problem occurred out of warranty, cost for the repair would likely have been 2,000 to 3,000 dollars.
I crossed the 100,000 mile mark earlier this month.
After a lot of changes in my life, including a new job, I felt like it was time for a new vehicle. The CVT problem above had hurt my confidence in the reliability of the Forester and I was just ready for something new. So, I traded in the Forester last week and took delivery on my new F-150 Platinum.
I have made a lot of friends here and really enjoyed my time in the Forester community. I will be sticking around and can hopefully contribute some more to the site, even though I no longer own a Subaru.
I am almost at 10,000 miles on the new truck already, which is hard to believe! It has been a great vehicle so far! Use the hands-free parallel parking feature for the first time last week... pretty crazy.
I haven't peaked around the forums in a while, but congrats on the truck!
I might be one of the few remaining original 2014 FXT owners haha
I had the same valve body failure at 88 - 89k miles, also replaced by the warranty. That was last year. I'm at 120k now and it's been fine. I think I'll be one of the few to take the 14FXT into uncharted territory? lol
I'm planning to keep it until 200k (I may end up with another valve body repair.. hopefully SOA might help with those costs too), unless something really makes me question it's reliability. I'm still making long 300 mile trips pretty regularly with no issues and bone stock.
Congrats on the new truck. I bet that thing gets better gas mileage than my lifted FXT with over-sized tires?? BTW, my 2011 FXT just hit 89K and threw a shift solenoid b code. Local trans shop cleared the code and replaced the trans fluid and it has been fine since.
