I would recommend to AVOID ScoobyClinic. To be fair, i think they are good specialist, but they will rip you off for 1000%

Example: Changing oils in engine, rear diff, and gearbox (oils+filter+labor)=250£?????? At the time when they show me receipt I thought this is a joke. Then I asked on what hour rate they work, and I heard 100£ (later through the phone I heard 3 other version of this rate from 100£ to 35£/h).
Just to give you a hint: 5l oil Millers5w30 (eBay or even shop) ~ 40£ dif/gearbox oils let say 50£ and the original filter 10£ = 100£, so 150£ for draining oil and putting a new one - ridiculous!

And the other problem with them is they don't listen to you at all! Because they want to rip you off again:) I was replacing the gearbox and asked them to swap sides the drive-shafts and re-grease them (there was very small, knocking). Any way they have to get it out when replacing gearbox, and it was easy to do it at these time. What happen, obviously they haven't done this. When I call them and asked to do it I heard it will cost min. 160£?!?!?!?!?!

DIY Garage in UK

UK Foz users who want to work on their cars, and don't have the place, I have a solution for you:

DIY car repairs|self service|garage space|workshop for working on cars, vans and other vehicles - U service U repair

I rent this garage for entire weekend, and I must say it is superb!! It's run by the very nice chap Brian. He originally started this place for his soon, but as he found a nice job, they decided to run DIY garage - so all the tools, are spot on, as he bought it for himself actually. They have great equipment, and you can go there without any tools. Honestly they have everything. There is a small caffe where you can grab some hot food, and local automotive shop, where you can buy parts if you suddenly realize you forgot smth. Brian is absolutely great guy, he always will try to help if you struggle.
I would recommend this place to anyone from center of England who want to work on his FOZ.

AVOID! ScoobyClinic - AGAIN!!

As in the title AVOID Scobyclinic Chesterfield! Absolute scam! Few posts before you can read my comment on some the jobs they done for me! I put there the statements that they might know what they doing but they will try to rip you off! Now that's not true either - they definitively don't know what they doing! Yesterday I was messing with my car, and I touch oil filter -guess what? They didn't screw it properly! I was able to rotate it with 3 fingers! I lost a lot of oil, and so on, so on!
I have seen a lot of brainless mechanics (unfortunately most of mechanics are like that) but none reach this level of incompetents! Honestly keep away from those people!

http://www.bentensautocare.co.uk/ in Kent

Recently set up following the closure of Subaru Waldonway, so these guys are specialists without the dealership price tags.

I'm pretty fussy over what garages i use, but these are my No 1 port of call going forward given how they dealt with an issue i had today that resulted in the power steering belt snapping and getting a few dashboard lights come on. There isn't many garages (that are not mobile) who will travel over 10 miles with a replacement belt within an hour to get you back on the road.

Close to Marden station, which is just 10 mins by rail to Tonbridge main line station. Also offer loan cars where required if your car needs to remain for the day.

Had the need to use Bentens again today, as i was suffering heavy steering and a judder when trying to manoevere at low speed or when turning the wheel whilst stationary on the XT.

Forums can be fantastic but sometimes can lead you in the wrong direction, having replaced the power steering fluid already and thinking it might need a new o ring.

5 mins at Bentens -all sorted. power steering belt was a bit loose.

Also reduced the gusset wind noise both sides by making some small adjustment for just 30 mins labour.

These are my garage of 1st choice now for any work on my Fozzies.

Need Help Finding a Garage.

Can anybody help me find a reputable garage in Wales. According to Subaru's own website there are only 2 repair centres covering the whole of Wales and one of those is Keith Price motors of Abergavenny who have received a very negative review on here. My car is currently sick and in desperate need of repair so any advice you can give me will be gratefully received.

Scoobyclinic labour rate way too high

I came on looking for a good garage. Fortunately I live nowhere near these. £100 per hour is like main dealer rates!

I would expect a max of about £175 for engine, gear and diff oil change in my Forester Turbo. To be fair garages EXPECT to make a profit on parts including oil so don't expect to pay the same price as you would on fleabay.

If garage don't make a profit on parts they would go out of business so don't expect to be able to take your own parts/oils to a garage and expect them to fit them, that is like taking your own food to a restaurant and asking them to cook and serve it! If you do then expect a rude reply or the labour rate to go up to cover the loss of profit. Also what happens if the part fails, do you expect them to replace it FOC?

Anyway after reading here it looks like Cotswold Subaru or Subaru4you are the best places near me.:woohoo:

Thanks everyone.

Oh my goodness Mate I can't even stretch out how wrong you are. Any respectful garage will not charge you for parts. Their rate should balance in such way, it will cover their labor, not a parts. Also, what sort of cost do garage have, ordering parts for you?? Internet, or mobile phone bills? 90% of them don't even have to move their *** to pick up the prats, and in most of the cases they have a well established connection with their providers, so they don't really have an additional costs due to buying parts for you.
What is even more if you build up a proper relationship with a garage, they will order parts for you using their discounts, and they don't charge you a penny for a parts. You pay them for the labor, not the parts, I think you totally missed the point. Also I wouldn't mind paying even £100/h if I would be sure that the people working on my car now what they doing, which unfortunately in ScoobyClinic wasn't a case

Swings and roundabouts Lucas.

I don't think you can be so cut and dry about every mechanic/garage and their business models.

Some may make a turn on parts (potentially charging you retail whilst getting trade rates) but have a lower labour rate. That would not be unreasonable and I am sure that plenty of people out there run that model. It doesn't mean you are being ripped off.

However, a margin on parts and an extortionate labour rate would put me off for certain!

I have certainly benefited from trade rates with my chosen specialist.

Gareth, in theory you are right, in practice most of those garages with as you call it 'different business model', never heard about such advance terminology and they simply want to rip you off. Sorry been there too many times, to believe different. I might generalize a bit too much, but unfortunately it is like with bad food, you might try it again, but bad taste remain.

Sadly had same experience at ScoobyClinic

In 2010/11 I was experiencing some strange 'self steer' issues after clipping a kerb (turned out I had knackered the rack and solved with a used replacement !)

These guys were told symptoms and asked to visually inspect steering components for damage AND to test drive. Did they do this ? Did they feck :chair:

Waited in the portacabin (is it still there ?) with Xbox/Playstation for company and when they called me into office they gave me a bill for wheel alignment !!!!!!!!! I told them this had been checked and was bob on and was ABSOLUTELY unnecessary. Had they checked anything ? A . NO / Had they test drove ? A. No

I refused to pay and we had a little ding dong. Usual story, no history of my requests, guy I spoke to not in that day etc etc etc

INCOMPETENT :censored: MUPPET'S :

Thanks for responding but I'm across the other side Wales and we now have a dealership much closer to us although I don't have much faith in them.
