I've decided to sell my XT, owned for the last eight years. Very reluctant sale, I can't keep it as it wouldn't get driven. I would love it to go to someone who appreciates these cars...here's the low down:

Subaru Forester 2.5 XT manual, full Subaru service history, 12 months MOT

In blue, 82K miles; manual gearbox, permanent all-wheel drive Subaru Forester, with some sympathetic upgrades to enhance what is already a fantastic, practical and versatile car.

This is the 2006 facelift model on a 55 plate, which means cheaper road tax - £325 compared to £555 if registered after April 2006!

HID lights, leather heated seats, cruise control, air conditioning, heated wing mirrors and windscreen, remote central locking with two original keys, tow-bar and rear parking sensors - all working.

It comes with a full Subaru service history and a full 12 month MOT. Advisories for the two front tyres. They're fine (4-5mm) but will need replacing sometime over the next 12 months. The cambelt was done by Subaru at 50,000 miles.

I've owned the car since 2011 and this is a very reluctant sale. I have a new job that requires regular long trips, which means I need a diesel. Replacement car is bought, so the Subaru is not being used, is under cover and mileage will not increase.

The car has averaged around 4,500 miles a year in my ownership. It has been looked after and cleaned and polished regularly. The car is however almost 15 years old, so there are some minor age-related marks but it is in exceptional condition for its age.

I’m 50 years old. I enjoy occasional spirited (and brief) driving and I have always driven it sympathetically. It has never been tracked and I have never dropped the clutch and booted it, its just not the way I drive. So anyone looking at this, please be assured this car has never been 'ragged'. It has been carefully looked after and I hope this one will last for many years to come. When you care about something you look after it.

There is a folder full of all the paperwork collected during the cars life, so the new owner can see full details of its history.

Modifications
The car has had a significant audio upgrade and sounds amazing - audiophile quality. This would cost around £1,500 for the install. The front speakers have some Focal K2 Power components with crossovers (over £300 new), a JL Audio XD400/4 amplifier (around £350 new) and a JL Audio 8" microsub CP108LG-W3v3 (around £300 new). The OEM head unit and front speakers were not great, absolutely no comparison. I can supply the removed head unit to the new owner if required. This comes with bluetooth for calls and streaming music.

New discs front and rear, with pads and braided brake hoses - fitted at 77K miles.

The following work was carried out at 70K in October 2016 by respected Subaru performance specialists, The Engine Tuner (Alan Jeffery):


New KYG shock absorbers all round (OEM replacement - very slight increase in stiffness) with all new top hats and rubbers - all suspension is brand new. Springs, supplied by Springcoil are lowered by just 1". Nothing drastic, just a modest improvement over standard without losing any significant ride height.

Prodrive rear anti-roll-bar, uprated Perrin mounts and drop links, steering rack bushes and Cosworth air filter.

Heywood and Scott stainless exhaust - rear section and sports catalytic converter. I have the centre section, but chose not to fit it to maintain sensible noise levels.

Remap, with power output to around 280 bhp.

Further work carried out myself included replaced old intercooler hoses with silicon ones and installation of Tegiwa brake stopper kit, to eliminate soft brake pedal feel (common to all Foresters, flexing from bulkhead).

These modifications have used carefully selected, quality products. It looks and feels standard. The ride is just a little bit firmer than stock and sounds great when you open her up a bit. A perfect ‘A road’ car.

I would love this to go to an enthusiast, who will cherish the car like I have. I believe its easily worth the asking price. Please don't insult me with any silly offers. Only genuine enquiries please and proof of insurance if you want to test drive.

Following an enquiry, I wanted to clarify that the vehicle is due a timing belt service - due to time rather than mileage done. At a Subaru dealer, this would likely cost in the region of £600-£700. With that in mind and the new owner has the option who carries out the work and has full knowledge it has been done, I have listed the car elsewhere at £4,500, to account for that.
Prices for XTs vary quite a bit and you can pick some up for £3.5K and fresh imports are going for £6K plus. They can be difficult to price.
This is a well looked after car that should last many more years for the next owner. Buying an older car, where history can start to take it's toll, means it can be a lottery. I'd like to think the next owner, will be someone who cares about their cars and will have some confidence this is a very good example of a UK, manual, understated, performance estate. That's why we love them I guess!
Note, in my ownership the car has not towed anything, other than a few uses with a tow bar cycle carrier a few years ago.
