front wipers have mist only, rear wipers are fully functional

hi guys, i just picked up an 09 forester that had a tree fall on it. the damage is minimal, but one thing i cant figure out is the wipers. the spray function works, and the wipers move and do their thing. in every other setting theyre dead. rear wiper is 100% functional.
is this a sign of the motor being bad, or the column switch being bad?
