Had the 1,000 mile service done on the Forester STi last week and found that a strut brace had been fitted unknown to me...long story but quite happy.

Are you going to tell us the long story?

That's funny.
The only thing I ever find on my car is bird poop!

It could have been ages before you noticed, like when the squirty water ran out or something...

I expect you'll get the bill one day :)

Can anyone remember the time I found a new cam belt on the wifes car after a service

Wouldnt be so funny if the main dealer hadnt fitted a new cam belt only 10000 miles previous

and they tried to charge

oh how we laughed

It was given to me as a thank you for helping out with something, I just didn't know about it being given or fitted until I opened the bonnet at home.

As Eli Wallach proclaimed in his dying words in The Magnificent Seven: "Shows you, sooner or later, you must answer for every good deed."

Well done!

comparing under bonnet shots - reveals some of the detailed changes in the 2006 FSTi...

2004/2005

2006

I can see on the 2006:

Resin (instead of the metal one) header tank + additional relief valve on the radiator
(the former appears to be just a cost cutting exercise)

and, er, where the hell has your screen washer bottle gone Clive?

also changed from SG9C to SG9D (but not visible)

different clutch operating cylinder (I know not why)

change of mounting location/bush to the front lower arms - resulting in change to castor angle -

this apparently makes the ride better - though I haven't tried a 2006 FSTi yet.

do I win the prize for trainspotter of the month then? ;-)

looks like the back of a washing machine

try this one for comparison too...

my other current car - B4 RSK

I know I have added to the mayhem with the earthing wires - but there is still a lot going on in this engine bay - ie a big mess :)

it has no less than 16 pipes going into the solenoid box on the o/s strut tower and a monstrously complicated ecu to go with it :-(

still remarkably similar to all the other sti engines I have had.

There is supposed to be no difference in the ride but there is, its difficult to describe but feels more refined and perhaps less vibration through the steering wheel. Not sure about the AST's at the moment !!!!!!!
