Subaru teased that Wilderness batch picture on Twitter and pretty sure it's the Forester and this bring the question, the Wilderness trim in the Outback come with the bigger motor only so there is a possibility that the extra skills they want to give to the Wilderness batch means they require a beefier motor to handle the extra while going wild.

We will know in a few days now I guess.

Technically, it's not a bigger motor... 2.5 vs 2.4 = smaller.

Looks like the 2022 Forester and Forester Wilderness will have the same NA engine with an upgraded transmission.

MPG dropped though vs base engine. I doubt the tires alone are killing 3 MPG. I still think its the 1.8T coming over.

This is the EPA's official fuel economy site. Car companies have to go through them for the MPG numbers they list. Seeing this information on their site is as close to official as it can get without hearing directly from Subaru. It is about the same as seeing a phone's testing get released by the FCC before it is announced.

I have a very hard time seeing any way this is not correct.

Probably different axle ratios as well. That's what they did with the Outback. What we still don't know is if they're upgrading to the TR690 CVT.

Lifted, bigger ties, roof rack, possible gearing difference. I think you can easily hit 3mpg

Sad, but not surprising. Looking like the Forester XT may never exist again. The 1.8T might come over, just to replace the base 2.5L.

Anyone knows what AV-S8 means? It is the same code as Outback Wilderness Turbo and Forester 2.5 N/A for 2021 and 2022 have a different code...
Still hoping it was some kind of mistake...

No turbocharged Forester really shouldn’t be any surprise to anyone whose been observing the Forester over the last few years, especially coming in the mid-life-cycle of the current model.

If there is ever to be another Forester turbo, I wouldn’t expect to see it introduced until the next model revamp, and even then, thats a big IF…
