Looks like the review embargo was lifted this morning:

I've only taken a brief look at the content that came out this morning. I did fast forward to some 0-60s in the videos and skim through a few articles. Overall it seems people are pretty underwhelmed by the power again. Hopefully that is just because of the altitude, but still it is disappointing. I know gearing isn't a magic wand, but I was hoping the 25% lower starting ratio would make a bigger difference. I'll see what it is like where I live at 2K above sea level.
I live in Colorado. It does fine. The 2.5 get's the job done. People need to accept the fact that this is not a turbo.

Answers the question about the front turn signals. Incandescent.

The last review also mentioned that the x-mode re-enabling itself after going faster than 25mph is on all models, not just the wilderness. That’s interesting.
@Move Zig Yeah, I noticed that about X-Mode. Really can't find much new here. However, I did get confirmation from Ryan at Driving Sports as for why the Forester is only 9.2 inches of clearance instead of 9.5 like the outback. Turns out it does have the 0.8 inch lift, but clearance was limited by the manufacturing process. Specifically the drivetrain wasn't lifted. He briefly mentions it in the video, but here is my twitter exchange with him:

Sorry non wilderness 2022 outbacks... the tow rating is only for the wilderness... an interestingly nothing in the manual about the trailer stability assist, nothing showing the extra tow hook/recovery points, or the extra capability of x-mode for the wilderness... not even if x-mode stays active above 25mph or whatever speed.... I expect a document revision to come out sooner rather than later for some of that stuff.
I've been looking at the reviews and no one seems to have looked at the certification plate on the driver's pillar -- the one that says "The combined weight of the occupants and cargo should never exceed XXX". That will be the big kicker -- if it still says 900lbs (408kg) and they're letting you tow 3000lbs you'll quickly run out of space in the car with only 600lbs left for passengers and cargo.

Has anyone spotted this number in a review I might have missed? It's not in the manual.

I think this is a bit exaggerated in the reveiws.

Both my wife's '17, and my '21 do well enough at getting out of their own way. Yeah, it isn't turbo levels, but for something that can get 36 mpg highway, the power is very adequate. I doubt too many XT's achieve near 36 or better. The Wilderness trim likely won't either, but then it isn't exactly marketed for speed or total on road efficiency either.

Given the lackluster XT sales, a lot of the media is complaining about something lost, that only a small percentage bought.

But to the point: All I can say is test drive a regular Forester if one is available at a local dealer, and see for yourself how well it puts power down, and if it is something you can live with.

It seems you are already set on getting one, so I guess it isn't really a deciding factor, but at least you'll have a real world base line, not some reviewer's need to find some fault.

Am all for expanded product offerings. I went from a modded FXT to a Blazer to a Colorado ZR2 in quick succession. The Blazer sucks for everything remotely close to what the subi was good at…it cornered like dog, tons of throttle lag, no real off-road capability. The Bronco (not the sport) wasn’t out yet so I went bigger with the ZR2. It is a monster machine worthy of my lost love. I would look at the Bronco or any updated Forester line that includes more power and off-road capability.

The Forester is more than just adequate by many standards.

I always laugh when folks call the Forester underpowered. I go back to a Motor Trend comparison from 2013 of the Forester (Touring), the RAV4, the Ford Escape and the Mazda CX5. The Escape had the 1.6 eco-boost turbo and the others 3 had the normally aspirated 2.5 motor. The Mazda was about 1 second faster through most of the speed points (0 to 30, 40, 50, etc.). The Escape was quick to about 30 or 40 but lost the edge and the RAV4 and Forester were in a few 10ths of a second or tied in most speeds up to 80 and the Ford was behind by 1 or 2 seconds

They also had some good comments about the mid-range power and delivery at speed - especially in typical driving maneuvers. They never really said that the Forester was underpowered. The Forester seemed to know what to do to use and get the best amount of available power to the pavement.

And then there's that the other thing - the turbo motor. Sure, yes, many will lament the loss of the XT and a turbo from the Forester line up. But look at the sales of the turbo engine models over on the Kia lot or the Hyundai lot or even at the Mazda lot. Much like the XT sales, the difference in sales of the non-turbo to the turbo models is massive. Part of that can be linked to what the dealers actually order for their sales lots, but part of it is consumer demand. And then you've got to consider the prices.

Usually you have to get the top-line trim levels to get the turbo motors and at some of those price points, you could be in a BMW or Mercedes compact SUV. For many of those upper price points, that logo on the grill and the trunk is more important than the power level or the MPG to most buyers.

I've never felt that my 2014 Forester is underpowered or slow. In my day-to-day travels, I can easily keep up with (or in front of) most traffic, I can get up to 70 or 80 MPH for a run up or down the freeway without drama and I'm at that speed as I get down the ramp to the freeway. Are there times I could have used a bit more oomph? Sure. But I'm not driving the Baja 1000 race or trying to go flying over that gulley off-road. Extra HP doesn't help in those conditions. Does more torque help? Yes. But higher HP doesn't really help much off-road.

I had a 2014 Crosstrek. Now that was underpowered and slow AF.

First good shots of the new Cargo Side Wall Protectors I have found. Very glad I sprung for these on my order. They complement the cargo tray and seatback protectors very well.

@Move Zig Thanks!!! Not sure how I missed that thread.

REALLY wish there was a view to only show threads with ('19+) on them.

There is. There are actually a few ways....

Under the "advanced search" feature, you can specify that year spread and limit your results. You could also include "wilderness" in the keywords field and really drill down to specific results. And if you only want threads with that in the title, click the box.

OR

You can use the "FILTER" button on your screen and select just that model year range.

@FozzieBalou Thank you!!! I've played around with things multiple times including search, but I never missed that filter button. That is exactly what I was looking for. Is the filter new? I specifically asked about it here and was told there was not an option for it.

Note: Forgive my rude GIF in the linked thread.
I think .... I think that the filter ONLY works when you're in specific forums (like General or Troubleshooting or ?) and not under the "new" threads that shows threads across the different forums. But then again, I'm not sure because I usually use the "advanced search" and then hunt... But I know I've seen the filters button up there for quite some time....
@FozzieBalou Yeah, I was just about to follow up with that. I usually view on the man page as I want to view across forums, but that main page is still a little frustrating as it appears to use some type of algorithm to determine what is shown and the ranking. I wish I could just view all post from all forums sorted by last post time and then filter by the 19+ tag. Oh well.
... ah well, it was only a matter of time...
