Hello,

First of all, would like to thank you @jasonn for a great post about head-unit updates

According to a recent bulletin, 15-205-16R REVISED: 08/21/18 (there is the newest version Jan 14, 2019 but I don't have access to it) there is a number of firmware updates for most Forester models 2016/2017/2018.

You check if your head-unit is up-to-date by going into diagnosis mode > service info > version info > DA push and comparing the Nor/eSD numbers with those listed here and in TSB - if they match you are up-to-date if not there is an update)

The only issue is in order to get these files you need to have access to Subarunet and as far I have read user jdog81 from Subaru Legacy forums do not have access to Subarunet any more. If anyone has access and would be able to send me OU9608_USB_1st.zip and OU9608_USB_2nd.zip for Forester MY18 I would be really thankful

I would love to see the NU9609_USB_1st.zip & NU9609_USB_2nd.zip myself. Would be great to see a changelog for the updates as well.

These latest software updates contain new logic to address the
following concerns:
• SXM channels higher than 256 cannot be selected using the voice command feature.
• Additional characters appear (in this example, question ??? marks) after entering an e-mail
address and password using the software keyboard when attempting to log in to an iHeart
radio account as shown in the screen shot sequence below.
The Navigation system freezes when rerouting if traffic information is supplied by SXM is
used.
• Mirrorlink 1.1 updates
• Enable Mute function for Navigation guidance
• Incomplete display of intersection names in combination meter
• Increased accuracy of the XM Traffic information displayed
• Intermittent delay (approximately 1 minute) in display of map information after initial
start-up of Navigation function (2015MY Legacy and Outback only).

Hi guys. If you are still under warranty, just ask the dealership to update your head unit when you make your next appointment. It is covered under warranty.
Anyone here from Canada know if this is being performed here? My Kingston dealer claims he can't find any reference to this.

This.

I'm in Toronto and happen to be going in on Monday for a couple of minor warranty issues (switches on door handles not lighting up at night; very poor / streaky wiper action on both Front and Rear glass) and I'm going to ask them to do this too. If somebody else doesn't first give you a confirmation from Canada, I'll let you know what happens with my service visit on Monday.
I took my 2017 { (Canadian) Limited with Eyesight & Nav } in for service and explained that I wanted the Jan 15, 2019 firmware update that I had heard about, done. As part of the visit, they said they found it and installed it. I had to reset my radio presets so I know they must have done something. (Tomorrow, I'll go through the "secret" process = [press & HOLD the HOME (touch screen button) and press the AUDIO/TUNE knob 5 times] to get into and see the Service Information) and let you know what it shows me in terms of version #'s etc.)

PS: I'm not sure if it's my senility or not, but I mentioned in my original post that at night, the 4 window control and lock buttons on the driver's side don't light up. Only the driver's window control lights. The service guy said that's "normal" ... only the driver's window control lights up; not the other ones. I could have sworn that I've seen all those controls (and also the ones on the passenger side) light up at night, so you can actually see where they are.

Can someone help me decide if I'm senile or these buttons are actually meant to be lit at night, when headlights are on and the intensity dial is turned up to max. TIA.

@JohnShaver If you press the window lock button, the driver's window is the only one enabled so it's the only one that lights up. Press the button again to unlock and all 4 light up.
@Scooby24 using the Driver's door Window Lock/Unlock button made all 4 the Driver's switches light up exactly as you said. Thanks again. But I still can't get any lights to appear on the 2 switches on the Passenger side door (the Door Lock switch & Power Window switch). Any thoughts on they should be lit when the Driver's side switches are lit? Is that maybe a "service issue"?
I went and checked what I see in the Service Information, after the Dealer said they found an update. I guess they did "something", but I don't think what they found, is the version that's identified in this thread as a Jan 14, 2019 update to TSB 15-205-16R.

What I saw today in the Maintenance Information for my (Canadian 2017 Limited with Nav) says:
VERSION
NOR NU9409
eSR NU9409
etc.

So for what it's worth (YMMV):
- I remember installing an update when I originally took delivery in Jan 2017, but since I didn't check what level I already had, before I took it to the dealer, all I can think is that NU9409 is hopefully at least newer than what I had
- but based on this thread, I was hoping/expecting I would see NU9410, but I don't. So if NU9410 actually fixed something in my particular Forester, I don't have it yet
If you are still under warranty, just ask the dealership to update your head unit when you make your next appointment. It is covered under warranty.
Is it difficult to do the update yourself?

EDIT: After reading 15-205-16 I see that no it's not difficult to do but it's difficult to get the files.
